  • Suspension Issue - Custom Ironman Foamcell and Dobinson Combo

Had the custom Ironman Foamcell and Dobinson Springs fitted late last year. I have only done one light beach trip since.

Recently I have been getting this weird noise at low speed going over speedbumps or turning into the driveway from the rear left which sounds like something lightly banging on a spring. Looked at can't see anything apart from what is shown in the attached picture. Looking at the other side it sits straight. Being no suspension expert it does not look right, any advice what the issue could be will be appreciated.

You can turn that link and make it straight again. Then see if it still makes the noise. Maybe the link is too long but unlikely.

Check to see if the base of the spring (and top for that matter) is sitting in its seat correctly. Post a photo to confirm.
      Cheers

Thanks. Will give the link a turn on the weekend. Apparently it is ball joint connection. The spring looks ok - see attached pictures. Looking at the first photo, it may be link bar touching the brake line or something when it flexes and that is when I hear the noise.

Is the stab bar is located centrally in it's mount/bushes? I have seen them shift laterally in the bushes, have a look at the other side.
          cheers

            Have you talked to Whitey?

Not sure what the stab bar is, but will google it. No I have not spoken to Whitey. Will do so over the weekend. First want to move the link bar on the ball joint and see if I’m still gettting the noise.

Stab = stabiliser / swaybar. The bar that the rotated link in question connects to.

Had a similar issue with a GVM upgrade. The clearance between the front sway bar and the front struts was negligible, leading to the bar donging into the strut when crawling over deeply moguled sand dunes. There is a fix which involves a spacer under the front sway bar mounting. There are a couple of brands available.

I get the sound coming from the rear left, not the front. Any ideas?

Bit of a pain....but you could try switching the rear shocks and if you have the noise on the right you have narrowed it down to the shocker.
If the noise continues on the left at least the shocker is out of the equation.
I had an issue with a brand new Bilstein shocker that made a similar sound at low speed as you have described.

I believe there may also be an issue with the rear sway bar if you have a large lift.
Superior Engineering have extensions for the 150 rear sway bar (and spacers for the front sway bar).

I have their front spacers fitted and so far so good.
My problem was the front right sway bar was up against the strut/spring base. And the left sway bar had a paper thin clearance.
