  • Is KDSS Worth it

    Hi Guys,

I'm currently debating GXL vs VX, some of the bells and whistles on the VX I can do without. But KDSS seems like a nice capability. Has anyone driven both the GXL and VX to compare on-road, i.e does it reduce body roll significantly ?

    cheers

KDSS is very good on road and the difference in roll from GXL to VX is quite noticable IMO. I despise roll, so it was well worth it. Mine does have a lean to the right that should be fixed tommorow.

the other option is go the GXL spend the money saved, on some good suspension mods and get a god riding car with the added bonus of a lift, with change to spend on more mods???

Worth every cent. When I first drove the 150 it was a GXL and I commented that the handling was a bit on the wallowy side. Before I drove the KDSS version I was very sceptical (thought it was just a gimmick), however after driving it I was stunned. The cornering was better (dead flat!) but without that teeth jarring sensation of a vehicle with really firm springs. I can't comment about the off-road benefits of the KDSS (having never driven a non KDSS 150 offroad) but it certainly seems to cope well.

How much of that would be due to the tyres, ie 265/60/18 vs 265/65/17. Less sidewall, therefore less flex in the 18inch tyre.
Also the AT20 seem to be the luxury suv tyre for a nice ride ( I am trying to find something good to say about them besides that they keep the car off the road )and the AT22 a slightly more aggressive tyre may have stiffer sidewalls.
Not saying that KDSS is not worth it, just saying that the oem tyres on the GXL are a big factor in the wallowy ride. IMO best bang for buck mod is to trade them in when new.

Most definitely is. The primary reason i bought the VX was the KDSS. Living with it for a a couple of weeks I am continually surprised how good the system is on and off road. Firstly, the ride is like a limo but the vehicle corners flat - I mean hardly any body roll. You don't feel like you are driving a typical 2.3 tonne vehicle. Off road, again the ride is smooth and long wheel articulation - one of the best I have experienced.

Mind you, the VX's leather upholstery, power heated seats, auto dimming mirror, rain sensing wipers, xenon adaptive headlights and the night time interior mood lighting are icing on the cake.

I agree with all of the above comments. On and Off road the car handles like a dream. Stability is excellent and corners well. IMHO KDSS is worth every penny.
