  • What OLD MAN EMU set up do you have?

After much scrolling on this forum and interweb research, I have decided to go for a ARB 50mm OME setup.
I will be fitting a Steel Bull Bar, spotties and a winch, also dual battery's, a snorkel and a roof platform with an awning.
On the rear will be a tow bar fitted for towing a 2 Ton caravan and camping gear inside for trips away, but also a daily driver with only light gear carried.

    Model: 2016 Prado GXL TD.

If you have a 50mm ARB OME suspension fitted, can you tell me what package you went with and why? and the type of driving it gives you?
    ie Springs 2885? 2887? 2889? 2898?

    Cheers

    Gday Gary.

I have this Old Man Emu package on my 2018 Prado 150 GX Diesel (installed about a year ago):

    Front

    - Spring: 2887 (bull bar, no winch)
    - Nitrocharger Sport Strut: 90010

    Rear

    - Spring: 2898 (200 Kg constant weight)
    - Nitrocharger Sport Shock: 60080
    - Shock stone guards fitted: OME661

Added weight: on the front I have a steel bull bar, dual battery, but no winch or driving lights. On the rear, I have a tow bar, set of Drifta drawers and I keep a bit of gear in them most of the time. I also have steel side steps and a Rhino rack pioneer platform on the roof.

    I don't tow anything.

Heights: The front only came up 30-40 mm and the rear came about 60-70 mm (this is versus OEM heights without any weight in the car). But when the car is fully loaded for the trip (we'd be very close to GVM) it sits beautifully and handles really well. According to the fitters, you wouldn't want it any higher in the front as it is on the limits of its adjust-ability. But with a winch and driving lights, I think you would want the heavier/longer springs in the front. The 200 Kg rear springs seem like the perfect setup for us.

I'm very happy with this setup. The ride is firmer of course, but I prefer that. It is nice enough around town and handles well on the gravel roads.

I have the same plan offered by arb. But still have some questions, did you upgrade the up control arm and extend brake line after lift? Thanks

          Shouldn't need to.

No upper control arm replacement or brake line extension for me and all good. Replacing the UCA helps with wheel alignment I think (amongst other things) but doesn’t seem necessary unless going extra high in front maybe.
