Hi all,
I am driving a 150 series Prado from 2014 (4L V6) and fitted it with a TJM Gold lift kit (5cm lifted, shocks and coils, front and rear) earlier this year. I've now put 10.000 or so km on them, mostly in the North of Saudi Arabia. Conditions here can be as rough as the landscapes are stunning -- from steep and heavily washed out mountain trails to lava fields and of course all kind of sand deserts. I figured Aussies and South Africans will be the only ones with perhaps similar driving experiences
My car has an annoying tendency of heavily bouncing up and down when encountering any kind of bumps. Even relatively slight and very common "waves" on a desert path send my nose heavily diving down and my behind jumping up and down -- I now already have long scratch marks on my rear door from cargo boxes that are regularly jumping 30 cm up and down even at moderate speeds. Also on asphalt, repeating transverse joints on bridges etc can send me into a nice bounce at normal road velocities. The shocks are still new, no signs of leaking and the problem is also there when the shocks are perfectly cold. My guess is that the coils are simply too soft. However, these are the standard coils recommended by TJM (150 kg rating for the rear coils) and I have neither bull bar, nor winch or a second battery fitted (yet). I am typically quite nicely loaded on these trips though (4 extra fuel canisters, second spare wheel, at least 50 L water, recovery and camping gear etc).
Has anyone made similar experiences with TJM lift kits? Would firmer coils be the solution?
