  • New Airbags Fitted suggested psi

    Hi all

Have just had coilrites fitted to the 150 and just after advice as to the best setting for a jayco 16.35 off roader on the rear. i got little assistance from the supplier i have been advised that 20 to 25 psi os best just after advice i think the van is about 1700kg loaded.

After advice for the psi for the bags

Inflate your bags to around 28psi with the car unloaded. This should make the car sit high in the rear. Load and hitch up then adjust the air pressure to the desired ride height. You should end up with somewhere in the low 20's psi. The pressures I have quoted here will be a matter of trial and error to suit your circumstances.

      Hi Jason

I run around with mine at 5psi with no weight and when I put my camper on 1300kg's - ish I load up the car and then blow up the bags so that it sits right. This usually ends up with about 18psi in them but one may have more then the other to level it out.

I hope that sort of helps...

      Cheers Daniel

Re: New Airbags Fitted suggested psi

Not sure about coil rites but they look the same as poly air's which we have been using for three cars and fifteen years and too many off road k's to think about now.

Firstly if they are similar to poly air then everyone pumps them up too hard. Seems to be the most common mistake and it does nothing to help the ride and the job they are there to do

They operate as spring helpers and the process we use is as follows

        1. Pump up to around 30 psi, you need a decent low pressure tyre gauge to get this right
        2. Load and/or hook up camper trailer
        3. Reduce the pressure on both to make the vehicle level front to rear and side to side
        4. Check pressure. We normally operate the following; no load-10 psi, fully loaded Prado (2950kg) 14 psi, Ultimate XTrak on the back the same pressure

Never had a problem with that approach and have met heaps of people complaining about rough ride and broken air springs and they have all put too much air in the things and by that I mean over 35 psi

        Regards

          New Airbags Fitted suggested psi

I have coil-rites and run them at 10-12 psi unloaded. With my camper on the back I use 25psi. The camper has a 120kg ball weight. Weight if camper doesn't mean much. Ball weight is more important with regard to airbag pressures.

Even at 25psi, with a full car and the camper on the back, the rear still sags a little. Just less than with no airbag pressure.
