Yep, which means they aren't recommended - i.e. they will foul the KDSS component and is illegal on the 150 as it narrows the track.

Might get something else next time, the D697s are looking a bit thrashed after the GTG.
Fido, interesting feedback. What would you get next?

Not sure, it's a quandary. I'm happy with the D697 LTs on road but now there made in Indonesia I'm not convinced they will have the same longevity as the D694s I had on my 95 series which were made in Japan. I keep getting told to get BFGs but they don't seem to handle so well on wet roads in my limited experience using them.

          • Hi Fido,

Do you think the issue is the lack of sidewall height which causes the side walls to bulge with lower pressures? Would a higher sidewall bulge less on lower pressures?

            • I really couldn't tell you Bawky as these D697s are the 1st tyres we've ever dropped the pressures on, the previous 95 series didn't see any real action. I should clarify that the pressures were lowered to 18-20 PSI for some tracks and they normally run at 40 PSI, that's a big drop.

Can you tell me what the standard 18"Kakadu rim's offset is?

Am I correct in thinking that a et15 sits 15mm further away from the chassis than a et30?

                  • Thanks amts.

I am thinking that sticking with the 18 inch rims might be the easier option.

                    1. If I wanted to have the same offset and have a 17 inch rim which is compatible without rubbing and fit over the brakes what would the choice be?

                    2. Are steel Toyota rims 17 x 7.5 ET25 and are they compatible?

No they won't fit over the brake. U'll need to go back to around a +10.

The problem with ET25 17" wheels is clearance around the KDSS. A few people have put ET15 17" wheels ok and FJ 17" wheels which are ET 20 from memory. The factory steel wheels are ET 30 and won't fit and would be illegal anyway due to reducing the track.

                        • Decision Made

Due to the NSW RMS feedback and changes last November I have purchased 6 Kakadu 18 inch rims as a second set and purchased the new size 275 65 18 Cooper ST MAXX LT tyres 123Q. They don't rub anywhere on first fitting and I believe they are legal from my enquires.

                          • Looks good and diameter is legal.
I'm surprised that the 818 mm diameter don't rub on the mudflap, if you turn the wheel. Mine (about 808) rub under light breaking when the wheel is turned to the right.

Those rims must have cost a fair bit. Or did you get them from a wrecker? Tyres look good!

                              • Hi Fido, thanks for your help with the tyre decision. It is appreciated. I was able to pick up 6 rims for $2,250 from a person that deals a little in them. I figure eventually I could sell them although it may take a while. I like the 2nd set as it allows for a road set and if we are happy with the ST Maxx all the time then we can use the worn ones around town and use new or the ones with plenty of tread for off road use. I have been told don't go on big trips with less than 50% tread. This allows us to run them down separately.

The Yoka's are great around town and actually not bad off road. We are going to some large sharp rocks, so the LT construction and tread depth should help (I hope).
