          This helps.
          Good Day all

A warm hello from a very warm Cape Town in South Africa.

I am currently driving a 2011 Prado VX and love my vehicle to bits. I recently travelled from Cape Town through to the Kruger National Park, the vehicle drove like a dream, however, I have Dunlop 265/60 R18's, I simply dislike these tyres and have no confidence in them (they did behave on the trip of about 4500km's).

On my previous vehicles I fitted BF Goodrich A/T's, so yeah, I am a big BF fan.

What I would like to know, and that is why I quoted the above post, can I fit BF Goodrich T/A K02 in 265/65 R18 on my vehicle, also, will the Sparewheel cover fit without issues?

Please forgive me if I rekindling a topic that has been spoken about here a lot, but some latest and greatest reassurance on my question will help a lot!

          Cheers!

Hi there. The BFG 265/65/18 will most definitely fit with or without a lift. As for the spare wheel cover I think you might have trouble. If you search for largest tyre to fit under spare wheel cover you should come across a thread that will help find your answer. I'm not sure how to tag that thread for you but it is somewhere on here. Anyways best of luck.

Hi Brendos, thank you very much. I will give it a search! Thanks again!

              • After careful study Pradopoint threads I fitted BFG 265/65/18 before the big trip last year. Some seriously damaging roads in the Kimberleys (eg Mitchell Plateau), Cape Leveque, and then across the Gibson to Alice through various tracks. I consider the BFG's the best insurance I could have had. Had two spares on the roof and one on the back, never touched. The same four tyres brought me home 17,000 km later. I saw a lot of carnage with other well known brands. Only problem was when I went to rotate them when I got home. There was large bits of rubber missing from the knobs on the rear treads so much that they could not be successfully balanced on the front. All is well with 60,000 km on those tyres now and still looking like a good 20k to go. I say they are excellent value.
The other best insurance was new Bilstein shocks and Dobinson springs with lift from Zordos in Brisbane. With 200kg on the roof and a full load inside it never bottomed out once through the washouts. PS throw away the wheel cover and bracket, it's only a flimsy bit of plastic.

                • I have finally had my 3"lift fitted and its amazing. All the in cab height adjustment functions still work and I have a heap more clearance. Huge credit to Cal and the guy's at CalOffroad for an exceptional lift kit, nothing was too much trouble regular feedback and contact and all questions answered happily.
So I'm Just waiting till the AT22's wear down a bit more and would like to start looking at new tyre options.
I like the Cooper ST-Maxx 275/70R17 and wondered if anyone has fitted these? any feedback would be great.

Have you had any rubbing with these tyres? Mine is lifted so I'm assuming I will be fine but I will be going for something in an AT tyre so more agressive tread pattern than the Dunlops.

                    • No rubbing at all, with these and I've now lifted mine too and in about 5km more I will be getting some new tyres too. I'm thinking about the cooper At3 or St Maxx. In a 275/70R17. I don't think the spare wheel cover will fit these as its tight on the dunlops. May have to go with the plate style cover the Fj's have

                      • The tyre size calculator I used warns that going > 3% over the OE tyre diameter has a risk of brake failure. A 275/70/R17 would be 5.37% over, a 265/70/R17 would be 3.56% over. The closest in diameter to the OE tyres would be a 265/65/R17 at only 0.14% over.

I was thinking 265/70/R17 myself, same as what comes on the FJs.

                        • Mate I've got the rf10 hankooks on my rig but in the 275/65/18 size happy as with them, one thing that I found difficult was trying to find a lt tyre in the factory size I've got a small lift, these tyres don't rub at all. was quoted 245 each for rf10 in 265 form take note this is still a passenger rated tyre just with extra load form and 300 for the lt rated 275/65/18

                          • Hi,
Havnt been on here in a long time - so hello again.
Are you guys lifting your VX's or Kakadu's??? I was advised that mine has the KDSS suspension and the height should not be messed with.
                            Is this true?
I have had the Dick Cepek Trail Country tyres on for 65,000 and now looking for something new, was told the Goodyear Duratrac in 265/60R18 was good but read some not so good reviews on excessive tyre wear!! is this also true?
                            Thanks In Advance
                            Tony

                            • Hey Tony, mine is a Kakadu with a three inch lift fitted. There are a few on here that have lifted their KDSS Prado without issue.

                              • I lifted my VX last week too no issues. They just require different coil springs to suit the KDSS.
