  • 697 vs what else?

    Hi All,
As the title says I am leaning towards getting Bridgestone Duller 697 tires for my GXL. There is mixed views on their grip in wet. Any comments about the wet tarmac handling or general views on 697's?

Thanks in advance. BTW getting Costco membership as they throw in a few extras like free tire rotation etc.

    Staying with 265/65/17 configuration.
D4D. How long will it last?

Dunno about 697's but the old Desert Dueller Cheesecutters on our 40 series have never let us down

Nitto Terra Grapplers G2 are buy 3 get 1 free at Bob Jane.
      Also look at Toyo AT2s.

I had 697s on a Nissan Navara twin cab with plenty of weight in the back, very scary in the wet. Also only got about 50k out of a set, rotated every 10k. Currently considering Nitto Terra Grappler (made by Toyo) at $765 from Bob Jane on a buy 3 get 4 deal. Started a thread this morning to see if anyone here has good or bad things to say about them.

Thanks all, will look at the options. Unfortunately Costco have a very limited range and none of what has been mentioned here. Need to widen the scope I guess.

I ran 697s for about 12 months. Great on road and in the wet but were shite off road so swapped them for ATZ P3s.

G2 are a passenger Construction. If you want a LT construction stick with the original Terra Grappler.
Also Toyo Australia are about to release an Open Country RT, sits between an AT and a Mud.
                Toyo/Nitto same company.

Pretty happy with me BFG KO2's, they are a bit pricy but they've got a solid rep. Have also heard really good things about Toyo/ Nitto (from memory their AT is about the same price as a KO2- At least with Gympie dealers anyway).

I switched from BFG to 697. The 697 is much better on the road and in the wet, but nowhere near as good as the BFG off road.

Have about 25,000k on them on both vehicles and apart from a little more road noise they have held up well and are pretty good in the wet and work good off road. Very happy at the price they were.

Sorry, got my info from Nitto Australian WWW. Now I'm confused. I've only had the Terra Grapplers which also has different ratings.... Apparently.

Apologies for delayed response, finally gave in to 697's from Costco. Also found that the free tyre rotation is done every 10k. So I plan to do the rotation alternate to the service schedule. There is definitely more road noise than Dunlop's.
