  • Tyre Compatability

In the way of background. On my last trip I had the misfortune to have a rock go through the sidewall of a near new tyre.

The tyres on my vehicle are bridgestone dueller 697's with a load and speed rating of 112T.

The bridgestone dealer supplied a dueller LT 697 with a load and speed rating of 116S as a replacement. At the time I queried this and was told there was no problem as they have a near identical tread pattern just a bit stiffer in the sidewall and both tyres are within my Prado tyre rating requirement.

My query is. Is this the correct information? As I want to rotate my tyres and to keep the 116S tyre unused will mean it will be out of date to eventually use with a matched set. Weighing the 2 tyres there is about 2Kg difference between the new 116S and the 10,000 kilometre old 112T tyre. Is the weight difference significant on the rear axle ie does it affect the diff in any way?

A google search tells me that it is not against the law to use tyres of different load ratings as long as they are the same type.
