  • Will 285/70R17 BFG AT fit?

Wandering if anyone has successfully fitted 285/70R17 tyres on 150 series Prado with a 2in lift? Looking to get BFG AT KO2 on 17x7.5in rims with an offset of +10 (FJ cruiser rims or equivalent after market)
Apologies if this has been covered, couldn’t find.
    Thanks

Hey mate, I checked out the details of my wheels, they are a 20mm offset.

I ended up going with BFG AT KO2 265/70R17. For what it’s worth, my thinking was as follows: tried and tested size on the Prado, smaller & lighter than the 285s which I was considering. Didn’t want to loose power/torque when towing a camper trailer on sand. Lighter wheel also reduces strain on CV joints and other components. The 265/70R17 is a more common size than the 285 and no issues getting a replacement out in the sticks. My camper trailer has 265s which makes spares interchangeable. Most people who have upgraded tyres on prados run 265/70R17 so going in convoy also means spares are interchangeable.

Just adding some confirmation here, though not news for many.

yesterday I fitted 285/70/17 muddies on 17x8 +10 rims to my 3” lifted 150. Didn’t touch anywhere, full lock to lock, and even full lock reversing. (Which some said theirs did) I have factory mudflaps and didn’t need to adjust or modify them at all for clearance .

And some photographic evidence of clearance with 285/70 on 17x8 + 10 rims

This is showing 3/4 steering lock on (closest point to mudflap) with a 3" lift, std ucas, std mudflaps.
Doesn't touch anywhere. Clearance to mudflap is approx 10mm at closest point (shown).

While they do not touch anything when lightly loaded they may touch when your suspension is compressed off road. I have seen that happen with 90 & 120 series, not saying it will, just suggesting you be aware when next your doing some serious offroad driving when the suspension is flexing.

Interested in how your wheel alignment is with a 3” lift and standard uca’s.

After a little over 2” lift (805mm bottom of rim to guard) on mine they were unable to get the wheel alignment right as there was no more adjustment available.

Wheel alignment guy said he could just get the reqd settings. The adjusters are maxed, so not a mm more.
But it doesn't drive as nicely as I'd like, so I am most likely going to put some UCAs in it.

On that note, has anyone run Blackhawk UCAs? Seem to have mostly good reviews, and quite a bit cheaper than Superior arms, that also dont get as good a review (mainly for longevity reasons)

Interested in the uca’s recommendations as well. Plan on changing mine in the near future.

Same boat, just had 285/70 R17 fitted on a 2" lift with 18 offset rims, I do have slight rubbing at the front guard but this will be fixed once the bullbar goes on.
More annoying is the twitchy steering. Was looking at the Performance Suspension forged UCA, they look solid...

I saw those but wasn’t a fan of the adjuster built in. They look really solid, except it gets spoiled by then reducing this strength to include a screw in mount for the bushes. Edit: just noticed the superior ones have the same setup...

i much prefer the one piece design with extra castor/camber built into the dimensions, so can use the factory cam adjusters to adjust.
i notice they also use an extended ball joint rather than a std factory spec one, but not sure if this is a positive or a negative?
