  • Tyre change (alloy) with levers, with no rim damage - HowTo

For any one touring or exploring a bit remote, a 6th spare is a good idea. But you rarely totally destroy a rim, so it's just the tyre you need. So you can just buy a new tyre (carcass), and if needed just change it on the run, with tyre levers. Just carrying a tyre is also a bit lighter on the roof rack.

For some this may be a daunting prospect, but it easier than you expect. With a bit of forethought, you can do this without leaving a scratch.

Here is a video I made of swapping a tyre on my Prado factory 6th spare, with leavers and a jack. Nothing extra than you would have with you on the track. (I always carry tyre levers)

Hope you find this interesting, please share and subscribe.

    Cheers

        Nice demo.
Though I think you might lose enthusiasm if you had 40+C, dust and flies on the track somewhere.

Not if it was the way to get going again, and you had no other choice

A pump like that will not always re-seat the bead.
Carry a decent ratchet strap, run it around the perimeter of the tyre and tighten. Then pump up the tyre till the beads re-seat.

I do, or just use gas and light it up... Used tyres generally seal and they are used to being on the bead. New tyres a bit harder.
