  • Best tyres to replace factory on 2019 Prado

Hi all, any recommendations for some all terrain tyres to replace the factory 265/65R17 on a 2019 GXL Prado?

    Thanks

A thousand opinions will follow but in general an All Terrain will suffice unless you are a dedicated mud plugger who is willing to give up fuel economy and put up with extra noise and worse handling. Next step is are you planning outback trips on dirt. If so then a LT - light truck tyre is a no brainer as they have much heavier load limits and are tough enough for roads in the country. Then......... brand. Up to you. Price may play a big part here. For 20-25 years I ran BFG All Terrains without a single failure over most of the worse roads in the country BUT I found that they chip badly on outback roads, develop cracks between tread blocks and get harder with age leading to the odd dodgy experience in the wet. I too switched tyres immediately after I got the car in 2016 but could not get BFGs at the time. I got Cooper AT3 LT instead and wont be going back. They have now done 50000 km and have about 6-7 mm of the original 13 mm tread remaining. They have done lots of the crap roads in western QLD NSW as well as in WA and SA.. They haven't chipped or developed cracks, they hold their balance, they are quieter than the original Dunlops and much better in the wet.
That said we all have our brand preference/price point. I have stayed with the original size. Lots of info on here will indicate that going up a size to 265/70 will cost you fuel economy. Mu 2 bob's worth.

I'd agree with the previous..Light Truck for outback roads..and as for brands I'd just stick with the reputable brands , you know the ones..BFG, Coopers, Dunlop, Bridgestone etc
For what it's worth I have 265/70/17's and will be reverting to 265/65/17's for my next set..currently have Cooper AT3's but have previously had BFG's and Kumhos and both were good.
Interesting that the only two punctures I've had were in the BFGs..but that was just bad luck , not the tyre .

80000 km out of last set of bridgestone AT's.
