Thanks mate. I suspect you went through a bit of research! I'll see whats out there. I'll likely need 5!
I don't see the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 on Bob Janes' website anymore.

Also hear BFG T/A K02 really good (maybe had earlier sidewall issues?)Last edited by mat-with-one-t; 19-04-2021, 03:51 PM.

Yeah Falkens well reviewed. I'll look out for those too. By the way did you mean "114T" for your Nittos?

I'm pretty sure it's been covered, but I get confused as to what fits what, without adversely affecting speedo/odometer/clearance at full lock?
The reason I ask is:
- currently have the OEM Dunlop Grand Trek 265/60r18 on the VX Prado 150.
- have found a set of Falken Wildpeak 265/65/r18 at a pretty good price.
Will they fit, will they mean no lift or other changes, will they work ok with the VX KDSS suspension, etc? Will a little sidewall change from 60 to 65 matter? Maybe helpful for our dirt trips up the middle coming up?
Thanks in advance! Mat

Just reporting back. Just did about 7000km on new Falken AT3’s. About 1/2 that on dirt (higher speed stony gravel/corrugations/dust). A bit of rocky slow 4wd stuff to various spots. Muddy stuff for a few days in NSW. Rain bucketing on highway coming home.
All up, great! Spoke to lots of workshop guys along way for info. Ask 10 guys about tyre pressures to run, get 48 answers!!
In end I went higher pressures (towing 1600kg camper). 48psi road. 38psi faster gravel. 30psi slow rocky stuff and muddy roads.
Tyres always good. No traction issues. No punctures. Very good on gravel such as Oodnadatta. Minimal noted wear on return, although rears show some stress in treads, so I’ll rotate to front next service.....
Enjoy!

I recall asking an older guy at Kings Canyon about the dirt Rd towards McDonnell ranges. He was in an older Patrol with a mate in same rig. They complained the road was terrible, and that they’d averaged 30km/h on 20psi. We went ahead starting at 38psi again. Apart from a few rough patches, we sat at about average 65km/h and seemed fine....! Maybe that’s a Prado 2015 vs an old Patrol suspension?
I’ll continue to compile advice on pressures! In the meantime, the Falkens seemed great!

Read your post, were you able to fit 265/65 R18 on stock Prado VX rims?
I am in same boat and looking to go a size bigger Pirelli ATR 265/65 R18 and not sure if they will cause any issues with standard factory rims.

Hey there. We fitted:
- Falken 265/60/r18 114T
Great tyres in all conditions we've thrown at them and wearing well.
I was told by a Suspension mechanic that 65's would likely rub, but I can't confirm this. We are soon to get a lift kit (Outback Armour/Airbagman) as we suffer from loads of sag and wallow when towing. I will subequently likely it 65's without issue.
Cheers! Mat

Just reading your 2021 comment about the Mereenie Loop, we did it this year, towing, and I had to air down twice. The condition of roads like it can vary a lot.

With a 50mm lift the 265/65/18 won't rub, I had a second set of 265/70/17's that I used for touring while wearing out the OEM 18's on the black top and never had any rubbing.
265/70/17s are the same as 265/65/18s overall and I would think identical when using the same brand & spec tyre.
I ran the Yoho GO15AT extra load tyre in the 17" size so fitted the 265/60/18 version when I replaced the Dunlops.
Personally after running back to back the 265/70/17 against the 265/60/18 I find the standard overall diameter the better option.
For the sake of a very minimal increase in clearance the performance negatives of the greater diameter outweighed any gain.'18 VX, Billies with Dobinson springs, Summit bar with Narva Enhanced Optics to help my old eyes
