  • Fitting TJM Alloy Bar to 90 Series

    G'day

Any advice on following would be much appreciated - Today I attempted to fit my new second hand TJM Alloy Bar to my 2001 GXL. I have pulled of the bumper bar and all fittings I thought needing to come off (steel bumper, recovery points etc). BUT when attempting to fit the bar it buts up against a bracket (3 piece) which runs across the front of the car underneath the headlights (the headlights lower bolt lugs bolt into this bracket. I think the bracket is there for reasons of providing the top of the bumber bar cover a place to sit atop, and to provide a spot for the headlights to anchor to on their bottom corners.

It appears to me that to get this TLM Bar to fit, I will need to remove the bracket, but then wont have anywhere to bolt the lower headlight lugs onto. Ive called TJM and there are trying to dig up a fitting manual for me but to no avail yet. I have tried to attach a photo of the bracket hope its worked. Click image for larger version

    Thanks very much, Cheers

    Hey Ben,

They shouldn't have to be removed, ARB sprayed those bits black before fitting my bar. The standard Toyota bars cover most of it. Are there not any brackets missing? Has the car been in a front on accident which might have made the chassis rails slightly out of line with the body?

      Hi Ben,

I'm using TJM bull bar as well, mine it come with TJM braket. So I remove the original braket.
The problem was, this site braket has 2, left and right and it link to the center braket that hold the front frame.
TJM only provide left and right braket but not the center braket. So you might need to modify the center braket.

But if they did not provide the right and left braket, just used the Original Toyota braket and just do some paint job.
The Ori Toyota braket fit more better.

        Gday

Thanks very much for your replies and apologies on the delayed response. I have fitted the second hand alloy TJM Bar and it fits.... da daaaaaaaa.

Turns out the 2 black brackets that were sold with the bar are the fitting brackets (bar seller had no idea what they were for, but said that TJM provided them when they took the alloy bar off his car and replaced it with a steel winch bar) (more da daaaaa). So I removed the 3 genuine brackets, fitted the 2 new TJM brackets (left and right) which required minor grinding of car bolt lugs to fit the brackets in behind the bolt lugs (as opposed to outside where the genuine brackets attach), and fitted the Bar... DA DAAAAAAAA

Now its on, looks good (but a shame the fog lights dont fit in the Bar's fog light holes), the search is over, and its time to move onto purchasing the Cargo Barrier fitting kit and installing that.
Thanks for your advice, much appreciated.
        Cheers, Ben
