  • 90 series ABS lights on

My 2000 90 series ABS, TRC, VSC and hand brake warning lights came on when I started the car when parked, not moving and the speedo now doesn't work. I have followed many methods suggested to read the ABS fault codes and re-set the lights but none of them work. I can re-set the ECU code (42 - vehicle speed signal) which I believe is a culmination of the ABS fault. Jumping Tc and E1 (CG) on the under-bonnet diagnostic port gives me the ECU code (similar with the OBD port under the dash) but I can't get the ABS light to blink out any fault codes.

I grounded the AB pin but then the Air Bag light comes on so I guess AB means Air Bag.

There is a plethora of info on the web re similar problems but for other Toyota models - mainly in the US and none of the suggested diagnostic methods seem to work for me.

I have removed each wheel speed sensor and cleaned them and cleaned up the mating surfaces to ensure proper clearance. Also checked that each sensor ring is clean, intact and still fastened to its rotor - all looks good to me here. I have traced all wheel sensor wiring and can't see any damage.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to get the ABS light to blink out the fault code ? I am going to test the ac voltage from each sensor this morning but it would be a little easier if I knew which one(s) was being reported as faulty.

The brake pedal switch looks OK and the brake lights come on/off/on/off with pedal depression/release. Have been driving the vehicle with this fault using normal brake activity and there is nothing wrong with the mechanical brake system but the ABS is not working, it locks the front right wheel first and then the front left on hard braking.

Did you ever rectify this problem Gus90?? I have the exact same issue with my VX and I'm at a bit of a loose end.. thought it might pay to ask before starting a new thread. Cheers

I am having the same problem. Mechanic says it is a faulty ABS TRC computer and would cost $3000. Would like to do some basic checks first and found a wiring diagram but it must be for an older model that doesn't have traction control. Does anyone have a diagram for 2001 90 series with TRC? The part number on the unit is 89540-60120.

                          Hi all.
Im having the exact same issue with my 90 series 2000 year model Prado. Abs, trc and Speedo not working. I have replaced the ECU and still no luck. Anyone find any answers?

I also have the exact symptoms. Randomly stopped working th day after I got back from long trip. Had a redarc tow unit hooked up working fine for th week preceding the issue. Took all speed sensors out and cleaned. Gotta be a fuse or something somewhere. I don't feel like my abs isn't working eitheir.
