I've just had a Nomad valve body fitted to my 2011 Prado. The Prado has 180,000km on the clock and has done quite a bit of towing, both here in Oz and in New Zealand. It is fitted with 265/70/17 tyres. I was looking for something that would "tighten" up the gearbox and I think I've found it. I've only driven it around town so far and there is a noticeable difference in the amount of throttle required for day-to-day driving. Very light throttle applications result in faster than normal acceleration.

The gear changes are now noticeable. You get a gentle nudge at every change. I like the fact that I now know what the gearbox is doing. I was a little surprised that it engages second gear almost as soon as you get rolling.

I'll provide a further update once I've done some highway driving and again after I've done some towing (light weight off-road trailer). If I remember I'll also provide an update after I've done some off-road driving. I'm hoping the car no longer runs away downhill while waiting for insanely slow gear changes in low range.

Edit: I've had the AT fluid changed every 80,000km and they said that it was very dark and burnt. The installer used genuine Toyota transmission fluid and does not recommend using anything else.

Having done more driving around town and a recent highway/country road/dirt road trip I am still of the opinion that this was a good upgrade. The car is more responsive at all throttle settings and the torque converter seems to stay locked up longer on the highway. However, I have my doubts that it will improve torque converter lockup much when towing anything significant. We were supposed to go on a camping trip this week but COVID. I'll post more when I have the chance to do more real world testing.
