  • Blown Ignition Fuse Problem - Reward?

    Where the guru's at??

So my RV6 Prado 5VZFE 7.5A ignition fuse in the interior fise box keeps blowing.

It can travel for a few minutes before it blows but then blows more frequently after blowing once. (If I drive 5km and it blows, it will take more than one fuse for the 5km return trip)

I can seem to drive at slow speed for as long as I want but once I increase acceleration it blows but not immediately.

I can travel in the paddocks going over multiple bumps without effect but again, as soon as speed increases it blows after a short time.

Any ideas or places to look? Wiring seems fine from what I have seen but is really hard to check all the wires running from ignition due to room and them being wrapped up together etc.

Any help greatly appreciated as she is just rotting away.

Any information leading to the successful diagnosis will be rewarded with a slab of their preferred beer or pre-mixed spirits.

    Thanks for reading!

OK, lets's start with some basics...
Do you have a digital multimeter? If not, I would suggest you get one; and pick up a 12-24v test lamp because occasionally the DMM can lead you astray.
What voltage is your alternator putting out at idle and at revs? As it seems to be heat/revs related I would be looking at the alternator output first.
Report back and we can take it from there..
    cheers
    Steve

As far as I can see the only item that fuse powers is the EFI MAIN relay. Try moving the relay with the engine running and see what happens. I would imagine there is only a small jumper from the fuse to the relay assuming the relay and fuse are in the same fuse box. So if moving the relay or replacing the relay doesn't fix it try looking at the wiring under the fuse box.

D'oh, was looking at the wrong schematic. Is the fuseholder nice and tight?
