Symptoms:
I've been battling this issue for the last week trying all kinds of wizardry suggested online. My solution was so damn obvious I'm kicking myself for not checking this first. I did think if it but then thought to myself "naa it wouldn't be that"...
Anyways, the cause for my B2799 issue was that I had accidentally and partially dislodged the plug that connects to the side of the ignition barrel when I was working behind the dash recently. It was still sitting in the socket making intermittent contact but not "clicked" in place.
So before you go replacing keys, transponders, ignition barrels etc etc, double check the obvious things first!
- Engine turns but wont start
- Flashing immobilizer light remains on with key set to ON
- Repeat dtc code B2799
- Car starts intermittently with key turned on and off several times (in my case, won't be the case for some)
