Interior lights

Hi..... im new.
Just got my first Prado(1999).
Got it last week and just fixing up all the little annoying things.
The map reading lights and the rear lights dont work at all and in the center there is a larger light that only works when the door is open (on both door and on).
Checked the fuse at the drivers feet and that was fine.
where else should i be looking?

Have a look at the fuses under the bonnet, Thats where my interior light fuse lives.

ops: Stupid me..... Thats were i looked. at the dome fuse.
but if that was still good then why would the center light still work when the doors are open but no other lights?

The issues come from most 2 reasons (if the bulb is still good):
- died fuses
- broken wiring

I think you should have a voltage multimeter to check the (+) and (-) at the error light.

When we open the doors, the (-) will be provided from each door to the dome light system. So, if you can identify where the error comes from.

Fixed Map lights (bulbs were blown, really hard to get the cover off. Just have to pull hard).
Fixed the rear light (Globe was dodge, not blown.)
Getting Led lights on ebay and putting them in the front and back.

The center interior light still only works when the door is open....
will investigate tonight....

Did you ever resolve this issue? I have the same problem in my prado 2000 (95 series). It has an aftermarket overhead console istalled. Same as yourself, all the lights work when the door is open but not when closed. I was thinking fuse as all are LED lights and work okay with the dooe open.

Sounds to me like your overhead console is wired to your interior lights, if the overhead lights only work with the doors open. If it was a busted fuse then they wouldn't work at all..

Hi Throckmorton.

Problem resolved.
One of the spade lugs had slid off the connector so the only power was derived from the courtesy lights (still attached). There was no actuall poer to drive the lights when the door was closed. Simple fix but albeit the console had to come down.

Just fixed mine by wiggling the globes lol after all that test and confusion lol it was as simple as that lol
