Standard feature of 3.4 V6 exhaust system. Can be slightly reduced by removing the main muffler bypass valve (the bolt-in thingy on the muffler front).
Be careful not to break the bolts when removing. When refitting cover again minus the spring valve assembly, new gasket from Toyota is required.
Upside: better pickup, gain 1 litre/100km economy, reduced exhaust resonance, low cost.
Downside: Probable reduction in engine braking (I haven't tested this properly yet). Possible reduction in torque - seems unlikely given better performance apparent at same RPM.
Ultimate solution: Wildcat headers, hi-flow cat, hi-flow muffler, electric exhaust-brake flap.- Mixtup
