Engine knocking

Hi everyone. I have recently purchased a 2001 3.4L Prado with about 160k on the clock. All seemed fine, has a full history, drives great, however I have now noticed a very small knocking noise when accelerating from stop. Sounds like main bearing but is quite weak and usually dissappears as I drive. Do you think that it is the main bearing or could it be anything else, such as valves? Anyone has done the change at all?

hi Luke do you have a video of the noise, does it make it when accelerating / under load from 20-40km/h

hii brissy, dont have it just yet, but im more inclining towards transfer case/diff or wheel bearings now. its quite humming knock rather than heavy knocking and does it only when under load in small speeds (cant hear that sound in higher speeds). i ruled out the valves as it doesnt do it when revving up in park.

but could be just the sound of a used car, as it used to tow a trailer. on the other hand with the history i have with it seems like it had plenty of servicing.

all i know is my mates prado doesnt do that sound, so im a little confused atm.

Manual or auto? If manual, does this model have a dual mass flywheel?

Should have mentioned that - its auto. Thats why i didnt think it would be transmission related.

just tried to record a video but it is not hearable on the clip you only hear the engine. i will take it to a mechanic - guess just to be sure. but thanks guys!
