Rossy have you had the extractors fitted yet? Any problems at all with the supercharger?

hi glenn,i have not got the extractors yet been pricing them,2 prices $650.00 &495.00. the guy i normally deal with is the dearest, so i,am up him to know why! the supercharger is going great (touch wood),fuel consumption has droped off a little.it has stopped pinging so i think its time to retune it &up the timing.iam now using a toyota aircleaner instead of the k&n element maybe thats the increase in fuel? done 10,000kms & alls good.cheers warwick.

          Re: trd supercharger

          hi guys!

I just installed a trd supercharger on my 2001 prado and the tuner is in the process of tuning the engine. A unichip has been installed.
He says that he is unable to tune it because there is a problem with low pressure from the fuel pump.
He suggests to upgrade the fuel pump so tuning can be done.

We discussed the issue extensively (he appears he knows what he is doing). He checked the fuel delivery and, according to him, low fuel pressure is the only problem. At this stage, he does not see a problem with the injectors or the fuel pressure regulator, however, he mentions that the first thing to look into is the fuel pump upgrade which should solve the problem....

My prado has a reserve tank also ... he is going to check it again today with the other fuel tank on, just in case there is a problem in one of the fuel pumps and it is not delivering properly ....

I know about urd's kits (I am in contact with them for walbro upgraded fuel pumps and bosch modified injectors) but, before spending more money, I just wanted to get some feedback from you, especially from guys that already have the trd supecharger installed ... from what I read above, none of you have modified fuel pump/injectors/fpr ....

          thanks
          Christopher

Hey mate not sure if they use different pumps but Rossi on the 4wd Action forum had the same problem with his and he had a ton of trouble getting it all working properly. Unlike the guys above though so maybe there is a difference

              Thanks boof!

I made a quick search (very bad time at work...) in the forum you mentioned and could not find the relevant info.

Another option might be to install a fuel pump from newer prado's (120 series), fj or other lc .... is there any chance that any of these will fit ?

any replies appreciated ..... I'm back to work now....

                  Re: trd supercharger

I will definitely consider a TRD supercharger at some stage. The lack of power in the Prado compared to my previous two Jeeps is enough to drive me crazy. Even the thought of a hill is enough to see the speed drop. I think the Prado definitely needs a bit more power for effortless cruising at 100 - 110 km/hr.

I went through it ... interesting stuff .... however no time to wait for checking alternatives... have already ordered the walbro pump (2, for both tanks) and six pack injectors from urd .... need to finish tuning by next week ... hope it all goes well ....

                    thanks for the help!

Does the 3.4 Prado run the same stupid header system the Hilux does? if so then replace it with some decent extractors, an exhaust and a unichip and you will amazed at the difference imo.

I'm not sure if they run the same header system boof. Do you have any dyno measurements of the increase in power/torque? If I can get some low-down torque I'd be more than happy, there's just nothing happening below 3000 RPM. So a few steep hills have to be tackled in 3rd to keep the revs up otherwise speed quickly bleeds down to 80km/hr and less. Even fourth cannot handle some of the hills between Wagga and Tumut.

Any idea who makes a decent set of extractors and exhaust for the Prado and equally important - prices? My money tree died recently.

Yeh mate I believe the headers are made by Hurricane which I believe is an offshoot of Genie, not 100% on that though. I know Rob has done the headers on his 3.4 Lux and says that it is a totally different vehicle and the best money he has spent. He is also in the 4wd action site, not pushing the site just most of the 3.4s I know of are in Luxes and they arent on here ops:

Basically the standard header design on the Lux sees the left bank join the right bank via a pipe around the front of the engine, then exiting to the exhaust via the one pipe. Same principle as the old V6 4Runners, its even worse than the block headers off a 1uz. Toyota do some stupid things at times, even looking at it its easy to see why it would starve the engine of power.

The unichip is around $1500 fitted last time I looked into one but if it were me I would do the extractors, exhaust first and then see if the extra was still needed.

My dad has just got himself a 2.5T caravan, and his 5vz-fe auto prado will be hell to tow it as is with this power.

Looking to get the TRD v2 charger and URD 7th injector kit and whack it on for him.

                            http://www.lceperformance.com/5VZ-7t...-p/1063079.htm

The 7th injector kit comes with a plug-in ECU for the Toyota Tacoma. Is it only the earlier models of prado that the unit wont plug in to? Dad has the long range tank, so I'll probably have to get a second walbro for the second tank too.

Are any of you still running your prado with the supercharger? how is it going a few years on?

I have a TRD kit which I fitted myself in approx. 4 hours, so to me the $1000 fitting fee from Bullet is a bit over the top considering that does not appear to include anything to drive a 7th injector or tune the standard system, I did get a 7th injector and mount from Bullet though. I would import a blower rather than buy off Bullet at their price point.
I am running a Unichip Q for engine management, at present I also have smaller pulley fitted (7 psi boost).
I will probably refit the standard pulley and re calibrate the Unichip to suit as I find the 7 psi boost tends to ping on trailing throttle when towing.

Overall the blower makes life a lot easier.
