  • Leaking injector

I've just noticed I have a fuel leak coming from part that connects to the top of the injector on my 1998 Prado it wiggles when ibtouch it and sprays fuel out it is missfiring quite bad and when ibtouch that connector and the fuel spirts out the car starts to die how hard/easy would it be to fix

Howd you go with your leaking injector? I've just bought a 90 series and fuel seems to be getting onto my oil... any hint or tips for me

Mighty90 if you have the early metal injectors then they are more prone to leaks.

The plenum chambers must be removed to service the fuel rails and injectors. You can leave the throttle body still plumbed in.

Bart McDean the only way I can think of for fuel to get into oil is through the combustion chamber unburnt.

Either severe over-fueling running rich or else a lack of spark, but the latter would have a noticeable misfire.

If running rich, you might look at the OBD1 scanner diagnostics threads on this forum before wasting money swapping sensors, injectors and other parts.

Alternatively, since you have just bought it then change the oil as the previous owner may have only used it for short journeys with lots of cold starts.

Thanks 96vzj95. I changed the oil the day I got it. It is very diluted with fuel again after starting once and leaving overnight. I think I need to give it some love. New plugs and injectors. Maf sensor wiring seems dodgy. It only cost me 1000 bucks so I'm in front anyway.

For about $25 of electronic components and by following the instructions in this link https://www.pradopoint.com.au/forum/...i-tdcl-vs-mobd you can hook up your laptop to scan the engine diagnostics in realtime.

The 90 series ecu gives pretty basic but useful diagnostics. For example, you can see if the left or right bank of injectors is running rich and whether your MAF is responding to your throttle inputs.

Helps track down the culprit without resorting to massive parts swapping.
