Hello everyone, newbie backpacker here. Purchased a 2000 Prado with the 3.4 L back in December. It has an LPG conversion in place of the main tank however is duel fuel with the petrol subtank. I’ll be taking this thing on a loop of the country later this year and I think best case scenario, I will be removing the LPG conversion and reconverting back to petrol. For one, the LPG system hasn’t been inspected since it was installed in 2007 (transferring rego in SA doesn’t require any inspections). Supposedly, this thing is tuned specifically for LPG, however I average 18.5-20 L / 100 km on either fuel, there is no real variation other than the Prado running like a dream on gas and sluggish on petrol.
So I guess my questions are, what will I need to perform this reconversion back to petrol? I’ll be in touch with some junkyards etc and plan on doing this in a couple months before I begin my road trip.
Are there any horror stories or concerns with reconverting back to petrol?
Should I look at getting a tune or something reconfigured for better performance off petrol once the LPG system is gone or will I be stuck with some meh fuel economy?
thanks!
