  • 2002 Prado VX 90 series steering wheel replacement

    Hi,
got a quote from Toyota for a new steering wheel out of Japan, stupid price not even worth a second considering $2,200 lol

My question is where can we get a sensible price ? Thanks

Mine was worn in the usual place. I bought a faux leather kit and threw it on, came out very well. Click image for larger version

and then it even posted it 3 times.... anyhoo. Yes it came out OK but in hindsight I should have gone the black. They grey is lighter than I would have liked.

Comments from post #7 have gone AWOL. My original wheel was decomposing at the top of the rim. I bought a 15GBP leather cover off eBay. Easy enough to fit, it is nice and tight and feels much better than the crumbling wreck beneath. Wish I'd done it years ago. A local vehicle upholsterer said a proper recovering would be ten hours labour so I assumed he just didn't want the job.

Do the leather covers slip guys or are they stick on somehow. My 2000 GXLs non airbag steering wheel is worn in places and I'd like to renew it somehow. Particularly worn at the 2 o'clock position where it's been palmed for U-turns etc.

WHat do you reckon when it comes to just replacing the steering with a aftermarket one?

Can do providing no airbags. I like the OEM 3 spoker.

                        Hey everyone,

I have the same issue, the leather cover is decomposing, as a quick fix I got one of those covers to pull over from supercheap, but I don't like. Has anybody ever tried steering wheels from other models? According to what I read so far, pretty much any steering wheel from older Toyotas fit. My steering wheel is non-airbag but with cruise control, which unfortunately is integrated into the wheel. Maybe I have to go with the faux leather cover as well...

                        Cheers, Hendrik

On my previous Series 90, I had a slip on cover and it took a while to find one that I was satisfied with.
There are/were leather slip on covers available. A few months ago, I noticed some leather slip on covers at my nearest Autobarn store. I think they were branded with a R M Williams emblem, not distastefully large either.

Just an edit here. I did a browse online after I posted the above. I don't like the RM Williams that I saw there. Maybe it was another brand that I saw.
