I ended up buying a faux leather cover off ebay as well. It was around $40 and took an hour to install. Craftsmanship can obviously be improved, but not bad for a first try. I should have chosen a different colour though, when buying I assumed it would be darker.
Anyways, a year on it still looks and feels the same, not a bad outcome.
Have the same problem with my VX leather wheel. Bought a universal "slip-on" leather cover which was a tiny bit small. Unfortunately it has a rubber-lined interior which just wouldn't stretch enough & the whole thing tore, so into the bin. I replaced it with a softer vinyl cover without the rubber liner & that went on ok & feels ok, if not leather quality. Being a VX it has the airbag which is a bummer as I have a SAAS 4-Spoke leather wheel in the shed that I'd love to put on, but........................
