  • buying a 90 sight unseen from japan...

hi guys, new to the forum and hoping to learn a lot before I get a 90....probably

    so my story,

I am moving to Tonga on a work posting for 3 years. it is recommend to get a car from "An importer" (Link removed by admin) and have it imported to Tonga as the local cars are more expensive and lower quality.

having a look on the site you can get a 90 series landed in Tonga for under 15k AU.

    so my questions are:

is there anything I should be looking out for noting my ability to get things checked is limited? I have emailed them to ask if I can get service history's. im waiting on a reply.

should I avoid the 2.7 and go for the 3.4? diesels are non existent over there

I need to fit a child seat - I assume the jap versions will also have anchor points? (I have asked, I assume so, they have children!)

    should I spend a few more $$ and go for a 120?

any particular model I should go for? over there the models are RX, TX, TZ. TZ. is that the same here?

    any help would be appreciated.

I would suggest spending a few more dollars and get a 120, the 90 series are good but are getting on in age now.
You do not mention from where you are importing from, I assume Japan as you Japan models, if so I would think the 90 series stopped selling there about the same time as here, 2002, makes one wonder about the history as I never saw many old models around Japan when I was there.

thanks for the reply. the website is <Link removed> I thought I put that in, maybe admins deleted it? there seems to be quite a few. agree they are getting old, will depend on prices landed, as I don't know as yet how to sell it after the posting either....

I was just thinking taking over common consumables like oil and filters would be a good idea. any other common wear items that are small that could be good to take over?

ok thanks, ill just post in other threads until my posts are up, but the gist of the question is still relevant. car is sight unseen. all I have is a bunch of pictures to go off. I get going newer is a possible safer option, but it would only be a few years and not sure if it would make a difference. cars all present as immaculate.
