Re: Tregg Hitch with Stabilizers
Originally posted by raydesWHY ? You use the tregg hitch because it has lots of movement, ,, then to strap it up with chains so it can not move seems a bit pointless??
Having said that, I don't use them. Probably individual rig dependant as something like a Bushtracker is a bit different to a camper like a Finch or Dove.

Re: Tregg Hitch with Stabilizers
Ok I think more info from myself is needed here to give you guys the idea. The caravan is a 15ft Jayco Freedom Outback at 1450kg unladen and around guessing here say 1700kg fully laden. Yes the Tregg is there for articulation offroad, that's why its fitted to the van (the stabilizers are not intended to be used offroad). My 90s has heavy duty shocks, springs and poly air bags and quite capable of pulling and supporting the van quite easily. On road is the issue, as an unbalanced caravan can play havoc behind you. The stabilizers are used to stop the van swaying if the load inside it is uneven or in windy conditions and noticeable at high speeds. Now for most of Australian states 100 kms/h is the legal limit to be towing any type of trailer or it may be over a certain weight. Some states have legal requirements for stabilizers be fitted to all caravan over a certain weight and length (according to my Father who has been around Oz several times towing a 16ft van). Also as a requirement in some states is to install a system attached to the drawbar in case the van comes off the towbar and it activates the electric or hydraulic brakes. Surely someone out there can answer my Qs,

Re: Tregg Hitch with Stabilizers
If a trailer weighs over 2000kg GTM they need a break away break system that automatically apply if the trailer detaches from the car.Havnt heard any laws about stabilizer bars.2002 GXL 2" lift ,Air Bags,Cooper st,UHF,Snorkel,Full rack,ARB bullbar,Narva Spotties,Warn Winch,DVD,Waeco Fridge,K&N filter, pre filter

Re: Tregg Hitch with Stabilizers
hi zook , in nsw the brakeaway system you mentioned is required on a trailer weighing 2000kgs or more.the swaybar(wdh) is designed to move the weight back onto the front of the tow vechile to improve steering & braking.not to be used offroad.cheers rossy.99 snowy v6,bilsteins , pedders springs std height, polyair bags, bf goodrich at 265/70/16, daul batteries, safari snorkel, modified exhaust & extractors, rallie 4000s, gme tx472s uhf, 12v to rear ,40l ingel & slide ,tinted windows, rhino racks, electric brakes, trd supercharger, alpine cd & ipod, pp sticker.
