Thinking of doing a gvm upgrade on my lc 90 wagon....currently on 33s and 2"tough dog shocks and springs...but have just purchased a new caravan and want to bring the towing capacity up a bit to take it over legal...and advice greatfully accepted

Unfortunately a GVM upgrade wont increase your tow capacity only your payload.Cheers

It can do. I thought the same, but just had my Patrol GVM upgraded to 3495kg and the GCM was upgraded to 6000kg at the same time. So my tow weight is increased if my car weighs less than 3495kg. You will need to talk to an engineer in your state.Originally posted by 120D4D View PostStephen Bloomer

If you're doing a GVM and GCM upgrade and they combine it with a tow upgrade then yes, but usually a GVM upgrade is just that.Originally posted by smakb View PostCheers

After doing some more reading, the main upgrade offered for towing must be done before initial registration. The example on the website talks about a 200 series which they upgrade the GVM by 500kg and up the towing capacity to 4 ton.Originally posted by 120D4D View Post
The GVM part is to allow for the towball down weight from the van whilst still allowing the vehicle to be legal.
It it drives me nuts that the upgrade is legal on one car, but not on another just because one is registered. The is obviously no safety issues involved as this would prevent both vehicles being upgraded.Stephen Bloomer

It would be a waste of money to spend that much on a 90 series. Better to sell and buy something else if you need to tow more.Michael and Kelly

Old post yes but this information is incorrect. You can only tow what the car is rated to tow regardless of gvm or gcm. If your GCM is 6000kg you can still only tow 2500kg, which is what the prado is rated to.Originally posted by smakb View PostComment
