Better add Golly and crew Leachy.

And since Golly wasnt at the planning BBQ he was given all the chores that anyone forgets and cant blame anyone else..... cool..
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

Re: WA to GTG Direct Group.

[Re-post to keep info together in relevant thread]

              OK All,

After a great Sunday BBQ and chat I got volunteered [ ] to arrange the Warakurna/Giles stop for those
heading on the Great Central road to the GTG. Anyhow I've contacted the relevant people, and here are
              the details;

Warakurna Roadhouse - Night of Thursday 2nd July.
No bookings needed for the campground, plenty of space.
A huge camping area (the managers words) with 12 powered sites (avail on first come / first served basis) and
lots of unpowered space to setup camp. Communal fireplace (BYO firewood).
Costs: $10 per adult, $5 per child.
Facilities: Camp kitchen, large BBQ, Amenities block with hot showers, etc.

Giles Weather Station Tour - Morning of Friday 3rd July.
Arrive at the weather station office by 8:25am CST (park near the Len Beadell Grader out front) and someone
will come out to meet us.
Weather balloon will be released at about 8:45am, and the tour concludes at around 9:30am
The tour is free, but a donation to the RFDS is appreciated.

              See you all again soon.........

                    Hi everyone

Since i last saw you all, we updated the bus to a newer one. That said, i'm thinking of tagging onto this run with the clan.
I gotta be rude and ask, once we are all over in Alice, what are we going to do then? dont shoot me down, i know it would be a great run but i need something to entice the rest of the family to sit in the prado for a few days
                    Cheers

Re: WA to GTG Direct Group.

Yup - thanks to Jen and Leachy for the BBQ.

Great to catch up with everyone again - seems such a while ago! We must plan another WA trip soon....(see new post for my suggestion)

After talking the trip through and doing a bit more research at home I have decied to attend (even went ahead and booked the campgrounds!). Also after much discussion I think we have Glenn at a 75% (minimum) committment to attending as well. We are going to plan for him to fly in to Alice on the Sat 4th July and probably drive the quick route home!!!!!!! No promise of a winch required...there are too many sights and birds that he will miss out on NOT to come

My only thought at this stage is that I might head out on Tuesday 30th July and stop over in Kalgoorlie (or a town or two before) and join up with you lot when you pass through. I would like to try to cut the first leg kms down....

The other thing is that Glenn and I usually do a lot of research before we travel (eg downloading National Park fact sheets, maps, checklist, info on points of interests, visitor guides etc) , which I have started to do already. I am more than happy to email anyone else copies if you are interested - just let me know!

                        Getting excited!!

Good to see we've 'nearly' got Glenn coming over. I'm sure it won't need to much more of a push to have him booking
                          the plane flight.

Going by the agreed starting time, etc for those of us heading out Wednesday morning, it should be no problem to catch up with you in Kal on the Wednesday if that suits Deb. It'll probably be around lunch time when we all get there anyway (and a good point to top up the fuel before it get more expensive up Laverton way).

Just for your info, once you pass Laverton, the roadhouses along the way - Tjukyirla, Warburton, Warakurna, Docker River - don't take fuel cards.

You will need cash or credit cards only for your fuel purposes.

And for those with petrol Prados, they sell the "opal" fuel - a replacement for ULP. It works fine without any undue performance issues.

Oh, and don't feed the natives!

Re: WA to GTG Direct Group.

Are we all getting a little bit excited now??? I am!!!

At this stage I have a girlfriend travelling with me for the trip, so it might be a case of "Thelma and Louise"...

For now I think we will be departing with the main group at El Cabello at 6am on the Wednesday but will confirm that once my friend's leave from work gets approved.

I am still working on trying to get Glenn to fly in and meet us for a few of the days (arriving Fri 3rd and departing Tues 7th??). I was thinking of flying him to Ayers Rock airport on the friday and picking him up on the way through (on our Warakurna to Owen Springs leg). The flight lands at 1.50pm and based on my calaculations (assuming we leave Giles weather station about 9.30am and stop at Lasseters Cave) we should be passing through Yulara about this time. Has anyone actually done this run and can give a better indication if this would work????

Also, can someone confirm what the dates and locations are for the direct group returning home? Is it Tjukayirla RH on Sat night and Yellowdine on Sunday and home in my own bed on Monday?

                              Cheers,
                              Deb
