  • 2009 GTG Itinery WA (B Team)

We have two groups going to the GTG from WA, the main group leaves on the wedsnesday (A Team) whereas the rest of us (the B Team) are leaving on Sunday morning, the 28th June. Giving ourselves a (hopefully) more relaxed time with 3 extra days to do the driving.
Although we are taking a longer less direct route.
There are 3 cars in the group (so far) myself and family, Russ and family and Gary and family.

    Our plans are as follows:

Day 1 (28th June): Perth to Hyden, then take the Hyden to Norseman dirt road.
    Day 2: (29th June)Norseman to Eucla
    Day 3: (30th June)Eucla to Ceduna
Day 4/5 (1st -2nd July): Here things get tricky, we may try the Googs track on route to Coober Pedy. We will check track condition at Ceduna as we are all towing trailers.
Day 6: (3rd July) Coober Pedy to Oodanata to take in some of the Oodanata track, how much of the track we do will depend on whether or not we do Googs or not.
Day 74th July) On to Ross River for the meet up.

Anyone who fancies joining up at some point are more than welcome

Have been talking to Russ and hope to meet up with you all on the 2nd in Coober Pedy. We have planned to stay somewhere around Kulgera on the 3rd but could travel via Oodnadatta, just means a fairly long day on the 4th with about 800km if you stay at Oodnadatta. Wouldn't want to miss the BBQ at Ross River.

I'll send my contact details to Russ so we can keep in touch.

              Cheers

                Hi All,

At this stage I am hoping to be in Coober Pedy on the Night on 2nd July as I will be coming straight from my Stop over in Adelaide.

I would then like to do the Oodanata track from Coober Pedy direct to Oodanata (and the Famous Pink Roadhouse) then back to Marla, but would prefer to
                do it with a group.

What UHF Channel will you guys be on?

Stuart, you are more than welcome to join us.

Channel 16 is our standard channel.

E-mail me and I’ll give you my phone number but I don't think it will be any good out there.

Look for 3 bright orange camprite trailers. I might have the kids tied to the roof by then.

                  Cheers Russ

Stuart, I will be coming from Wilmington on 3 July heading straight for the Painted Desert via Coober Pedy. So keep an eye out for me. Unfortunately I don't have a UHF radio

From there, we''ll be heading to Ross River via Alice Springs on 4 July.

Hope to see you, and the others, on the road somewhere. 8)

Hi Gaz, I agree an 800k run on the saturday is too much, maybe Coober Pedy to Oonadata (190km) lunch at the pink roadhouse. Then Oonadata to Marla (200km) Camp at Marla.
Marla to Alice is around 400km, not too bad.

                            Sounds like a plan.

Also spoke to a friend about Goog's track and whether you should attempt it on your way over. His opinion was that it would probably be hard work with the campers on and will take you at least two days if not three depending upon current condition, how experienced you are and how long a day you want. Definitely worth checking conditions at Ceduna before making the choice.

                            Cheers
