  • Getting to the GTG - from SEQ/Nortern NSW

    Hi Guys,

I'm gathering a few ideas for an interesting route to the GTG from SEQ/Northern NSW. My objective is to travel on as little blacktop as practical and mostly avoid the major highways.

At the Northern end, I am considering taking the Northern Rivers 4x4 Trail, which will add two or three nights down to Coffs Harbour region.

I'm a lot less familiar with interesting routes south of Coffs. If you have a few tips, I'd appreciate the input. Maybe there is a trip-report or two that I can browse through?

    See you there!
    LFaR.

    Some interesting ideas LFaR.

We are committed to making the dates, and as I am a contract worker I can probably arrange my times somewhat. Depending on these pressures we may be up for a leisurely or alternative route to the GTG. on the other hand we may end up having to dash there and back via the highways.

I'd be interesting in this section as well as seeing if any of our NSW brethren have some ideas about routes to the site. Of course it all depends on the dates and external factors.

    Cheers OldGreyGuy

We'd love to tag along in this route as well, but we won't really know until closer to the GTG how much time off we will have. We wanted to do the Northern Rivers trail earlier in the year, but the website disappeared, and with the amount of rain we had we weren't real sure about doing it ourselves with no other cars. We'll certainly watch this thread with interest!

Sounds good LFaR, we'll work on the finer points closer to the GTG.
As you know,.... I'll be up for anythying.
Would be an adventure for the QLD crew to travel in convoy.

I hope the convoy grows as we get closer... That would be quite the sight

            Matt,

I'll join you on a run down the 4x4 trail to the GTG, no worries. Did part of the run over the border a week or two back, plus some nice roads back behind Coffs Harbour. Would love to fill in the gaps.

            Cheers,

            Dave

Always think that the journey is as important as the destination, so we'll be up for a more interesting trip down to the GTG.

sounds like you may have a bit of a convoy happening Matt
Depending on what needs doing down here pre GTG, I may dash up & join you for the trip down
I recon I could find a pretty good route from about Port Maquarie down avoiding the pacific hwy. I did a nice run a few years back from here to Taree with alot of dirt roads.

                  Hi ya Matt,

Hopefully we can join you guys taking the scenic route down to the GTG.
Zowie and I are both self employed so we should be right to extend the time off a few days either side

Re: Getting to the GTG - from SEQ/Nortern NSW

                    G'day Matt,

I've been surfing PP and it looks like the attendance from Qld appears to strong for GTG.
This would make an ideal convoy if we could all travel south together with an adventure on the side
We'll need to discuss this thread a bit more over the coming months and see what pans out.
At this stage it all looks very positive, I can't wait

                    Cheers

Re: Getting to the GTG - from SEQ/Nortern NSW

Starting to think that the missus may have some requirements for the trip down to the GTG:

                      - We went camping a couple of weeks ago.
                      - Went to the Brisbane camping sale last weekend, where she spent a lot of time looking at camper trailers.
                      - We are planning a camping trip next weekend.
                      - She mentioned this morning that it was a shame that the camp ground our friends want to go to isn't set up for trailers.

I may be old and slow, but I'm starting to pickup on the fact that she may be interested in a camper trailer.

I suspect that the trip down has to be trailer rated

Time to leverage on that and embelish it to get the most out of it. Remember to tell her that ordering a Camper Trailer takes a lot of time so the sooner you do it the more chance you have of getting it before the GTG.
