If anyone is still interested in this topic I just picked up my new Nov 21 build VX and did a weighbridge check to get a baseline for future upgrades:

Tare weight on compliance plate and rego is 2305 kg.

Kerb weight with full tank of fuel was 2400 kg (1220 kg front axle / 1180 rear axle).

Thanks ptommo59. That's a big difference between spec and actual. Do you have any accessories fitted? Floor mats? Towbar?

No surprises here. they always weigh about 100+ kilo more than Toyotas "claimed" weight.. Makes your GVM eaten up a lot quicker.

Only accessories on vehicle at delivery were rear luggage area privacy blind, front and 2nd row floor mats.

One was tare weight and the other was kerb weight, the difference being a full tank of fuel. So that difference wasn't that far from the mark, unlike for my Kakadu

On the TOYOTA PRADO spec sheet, it has the kerb weight (with the below disclaimer) of the VX as being 2,305kg

1 Weights/mass/volumes/dimensions are approximate and subject to individual vehicle variances,

and should be confirmed before fitting any accessories, towing or otherwise relying on this value.

Maybe the spec sheet should say Tare weight, and that is where we are getting mixed messages re: what the vehicle actually weighs.

Yep, my mistake to not realise difference between tare and kerb weights.

Payload management to avoid exceeding GVM is an issue for almost every Fourby. It seems obvious to me that many/most "kitted out" 4wds have to be regularly or permanently over GVM in typical operation. I've heard and read the warnings: "it's not legal", "insurance will be void", etc. If nothing goes wrong there's no problem, but in the case of accident or collision does anyone actually have any real, first hand experience of adverse legal or insurance outcomes for vehicles exceeding GVM?

Perhaps you should contact some insurance companies directly, and ask them, as anything we tell you will be anecdotal.

I have, and predictably the assessors will tell you that overloaded vehicles may void insurance. On the other hand I've seen plenty of insurance payouts for rolled and pranged fourbies that have the regulation bullbar, winch, spotties, oversize muddies, steel roof racks with jerry cans, rear drawers, fridge, auxiliary batteries, etc. etc. These vehicles, whether Prados or any other breed, by my estimation would be over GVM without any passengers or cargo.

Thinking that overloading is a risk but regularly overlooked in order to get next year's premiums....

First hand experience from forum members would be useful.
