Hi all I’m looking at upgrading to a 150 series but can’t decide between the petrol and the diesel. I know about the fuel economy and performance for each but are there any problems that mostly doing short trips (about 4min drive) will cause in the diesel? Thanks

Petrol or diesel for short trip

Petrol is better for short trips, and probably also if you don't tow. Petrol = no DPF, and petrol engines seem to warm up quicker, it's lots of cold starts and incomplete warm-up that kills engines. The pistons aren't an issue on the 2.8 diesel at all, or on the 3.0 diesel if you don't tow.Steve

A real shame about these pistons as the rest of the vehicle is fantastic but it's a small percentage that have issues. You see them everywhere. I would recommend the petrol regardless of towing or not as less maintenance and just as reliable. As a added bonus, petrol is actually cheaper than diesel right now although don't know how long that will last.

If you do that sort of short trips—— Made SURE you change the engine oil every 5,000km or 6 months whichever comes first…. Otherwise, your engine oil never have a chance to burn off the condensation… and go for a longer drive at least once a week or 2…. But change the engine one much sooner, - maybe even every 3/4 months…. Short trip is never good for any engine.
