It was all looking really good until that last picture. That is some of the worst looking spogie shit welding I have ever seen on the top shock mount. I hope that is not indicative of the rest of the welding, if it is then its a death trap.

I disagree, if that weld is indicitive of the quality of the welds on the rest of the trailer then its only a matter of time until something critical fails, this is a trailer that is towed on the road, at speed and if something goes wrong peoples lives could be at risk. would you like to be crossing paths with it at speed if something breaks?

Seriously, I also frequent a welding forum, if they saw that picture they would form a lynch mob and light the torches and go looking for where the owner lives. That weld is seriously appaling!

As for it being galvanised, anyone who knows anything about welding knows that excellent results can be acheived with correct preperation and technique, something that the person who welded that up clearly doesn't understand. people who don't understand how to weld should not be welding critical things like trailers.

welds should look more like this

              Cheers Andrew

Rear shackles on the leaf springs would have been a better option but over all a good camper. It would suit a Hilux owner.

Comon guys, Jasen is just trying to sell his trailer.

Probably others might have done things differently, but it is a custom trailer put together for his needs.

No need to pick it to pieces, its an $8k trailer, not an $80k Prado.

                  Hope you sell it Jasen.

                  Cheers,

                  Jeff

As for killing people if the weld failed; mate, its holding a shock absorber and the worst that could happen is it could fall off and would be unlikely to kill some one. If you were really worried about killing people you would'nt be driving round city streets with a massive lump of steel bolted to your chassis lol
Sorry but Brains commented that I was being a bit harsh, I disagree with his assesment of my comments so I gave further explanation to justify my comments, that is not going on about it, its backing up what I had previously said.

Your reply about the difficulty in welding galv steel shows you don't have a good understanding of what is or is not a good weld and what is acceptable. Further inspection of the picture in question, which is a bit fuzzy when blown up shows that the front spring hangers are welded on incorrectly. They are welded forward and rear on the spring hanger but not on the sides, this is 100% the wrong way round, you weld spring hangers on the side and do not weld front and rear as it introduces a stress point that will ultimately crack. there are other construction issues that I won't go into. As I said it all looked good until that pic.

Anyway, the simple thing to do here is just add more pictures, take a few snaps of some of the critical welds post them up and then everyone is clear that its just that one weld, simple isn't it!

As for me driving around the city with a steel bullbar, well there you go being wrong again. I don't live in the city, hell I don't even live in a town, I rarely drive the Prado too or in the city, generally only when a city is unavoidable on a trip!

                    Cheers Andrew

                      Gday jasen.
I think using these style side rear ends of utes is a great way to build a trailer.
A camper trailer is something I hadnt considered before, but the set up you have there certainly looks like it has some great functions!
Im sure you will have no problem selling it as it will perfectly suit alot of diffent people.
                      Good on ya.

I was saying your comment about it being a "death trap" were a bit harsh. Like Jasen said it's a shock absorber mount not a weld on a coupling. Sometimes the experts on these forums take to the members a little bit too harsh. Instead of bagging the crap out of someones work or build up, maybe a simple question to invoke some polite conversation about a topic. That way Jasen may take something away from the site, decide to grind the weld back and do it again a bit neater. Still the picture is difficult to really ascertain the quality and penetration of the weld.

I guess I feel the same way as I do about the whole commentary of people who start a new thread when they can't find something on this forum and then cop a response from the new thread police who want it shut down, god forbid someone start another similar but slightly different thread when one of the Pradopoint stalwarts started one many moons ago. It's almost like dogs marking their territory. Sometimes a new fresh thread may actually keep a thread smaller that becomes easier to read and on a particular point.

I know off topic watch the Off Topic vulture's circle and attack.

                        That is all.
