  • The 5 Corner Club

As I guess many people do, I have a bucket list of places to visit and things to do. Amongst this list was to visit the 5 "corners" in Australia

There are 5 state corners in Australia.

Surveyor Generals Corner, intersection of WA, SA and NT.
Poeppel Corner, intersection of NT, QLD and SA
Haddon Corner, Corner of QLD and SA
Cameron Corner, Corner of SA, QLD and NSW
McCabe's Corner, Corner of SA, NSW and Vic

I figure if you have visited all 5 of the "corners" then you are entitled to membership of the fictitious "5 Corner Club"

So are you a member, or an aspiring member, how many have you visited?

Show us your pictures and tell us any stories related to your visits to the corners.

    Cheers Andrew

I was pretty stoked last week to finally become a fully-fledged member of the "5 Corner Club", so here are some of my Pictures.

    Camerons Corner

    McCabes Corner

Surveyor Generals Corner, there are actually 2 posts here as the border of WA isn’t quite straight.

    Cheers Andrew

      Poeppel Corner

      And Haddon Corner

So we have been to all 5 corners, but haven’t actually camped at any of them, so the new thing on the bucket list is to return to them all and spend the night

Tell us about your corner experience.

      Cheers Andrew

Funny. I was just reading about this last night as some background to a planned trip up there next year.

Apparently the chains they were measuring with had stretched so they had to go out and dot it again.. And when Colson tried to find it on his 1936 West to East crossing he had an old map which still showed it in the centre of the lake so missed it by 300metres. They only found it on the return journey.

(I'd also always thought Madigan made the first complete European crossing but it was Colson 3 years earlier)

Sounds like a trip, "5 corners trip" how long do we allow for that? 5 corners in 5 weeks? Or 3 weeks is heaps.
                It's on my list now.

                Add some silly entertainment

is there 6 corners with NSW / SA and SA / VIC being separate corners ?

I've only been to Poeppel Corner and Haddon Corner and will visit all at some stage.

                      Done.
Surveyor Generals Corner, intersection of WA, SA and NT.
Cameron Corner, Corner of SA, QLD and NSW.

Have to dig up some photos...

                      On the List.
Poeppel Corner, intersection of NT, QLD and SA
Haddon Corner, Corner of QLD and SA
McCabe's Corner, Corner of SA, NSW and Vic

                      I thought McCabe's corner wasn't accessible?

McCabes is a bit like Surveyor Generals as the border isn't straight. There is a 3 way intersection at McCabes but you need to cross the river to get into SA from the post I pictured. The other corner/bend isn't named or signed, so not a " corner" as such. Anyway we have been to that point before as well

                        Cheers Andrew

In some ways it's both the easiest and hardest to get to. It's only a short drive from Renmark to get there, but it's on private property, so you need to know the right people to get access. It's easy to access via the river though, which we have done as well as driving there.

Our plan for spending the night at McCabes is to pull up there in a houseboat and spend the night glamping

                          Cheers Andrew

This is something I am aspiring to. I have done 3 -
                              Cameron
                              Haddon
                              Poeppel

                              Hopefully Surveyors General in 2017

As for McCabes well that one might take some planning
