I dont understand. What has publicity got to do with having a GPS tracker installed?
The tracker would 'track' even if the media didnt know about it.

Yep, wasn't there one in Adelaide just the other day, an electricians van, he was on the phone giving the cops a turn by turn guide as to where he van was being driven, he got it back fully intact within 2 hours of it being stolen.

This is a good case for fitting a GPS tracker. Given the publicity this one might have stood a chance of being recovered intact.

I believe GPS trackers can be overcome by GSM/GPS blockers.

I think the publicity was what got it torched. I reckon it was going to be stripped down, but when the media attention took off they got cold feet and no one would touch it so they torched it.

Is there a similar sevice in Australia to Tracker which transmits a warning to police when activated and has a VHF transmitter to go through underground car parks and containers?

Just because it has a tracker and you call the cops, doesn't mean they will do anything about it. Stolen vehicles are not a priority. Throw in the publicity and theres a good chance there could be a happy ending.

Victorians holiday came to an end when firstly, their Patrol crapped itself on the eastern end of the Gibb. The vehicle had to be recovered by a flat-top truck to Kununurra for repair. They left their busted camper trailer about 180km from the end of the Gibb. It had suffered suspension collapse. When the flat top got back they couldn't find the trailer. Somebody had lifted it despite the damage.

This once again proves we have one life to live. Just do it. I'm taking my family on a trip to Gonarezhou National park in Zimbabwe to commemorate my mom's one year passing from colon cancer - a trip she had always wished she had done. Thinking about that epic trip? Just do it!

We met a couple in Broken Hill years ago who also busted an axle out the ack of Tiboburra, despite that the trailer was stolen before they could recover it. They were Prado drivers as well.

So the moral for anyone with a busted camper trailer is to do a good job hiding it before you leave and take everything you can out of it in case it gets pinched.

Sad that we have people in our community like these thieving low lives.

Don't put any trust into gps trackers.
A friends motorbike got stolen last year. He gave the cops the gps coordinates and they went to the house where the bike was being kept.
Asked the home owner if they could have a look in the backyard, but without a warrant they had no chance.
They knew the bike was there but could not access the yard. Bike was never seen again.
Money wasted was the order of the day, as the authorities could do nothing without a warrant, which could not be obtained from the court.
Bloody ridiculous of course, but that's what happened.
