  • Do I need a Bull Bar?

    Hi Guys,

First off, Im migrating to Adelaide in April and don't have much experience driving down under, other than in Melbourne and one trip in 2005 from Cairns down to Gold coast. I have just ordered a 150 and was wondering if I need to install a bull bar. I will be making a few trips year to Melbourne and back (maybe every 3 months).

Question is, would I need to install a bull bar?

would appreciate any thoughts you have on this.

    Thanks

Do you NEED a bullbar, I would say no.

Might it be useful and save you some damage one day, maybe.

I live in the country and drive a lot on country roads, barely a week goes by when I don't have a roo jump out in front of me, usually far enough away that its not an issue, sometimes its a close call. I would estimate I hit one Roo for every 250 -300 thousand kms I have driven, none of those Roo strikes have caused any significant damage although one last year in a truck would have caused a lot were it not for the bullbar.

My missus tends to do a lot more damage when she hits them, she hit a big one and even with an alloy bullbar it caused a lot of damage. Since she attended an advanced driver training course she hasn't hit one (touchwood).

    Cheers Andrew

Der, what are you going to hang the winch and UHF antennas and spotlights off if you don't have a bar? For the city slickers - you need something sturdy for pushing the shopping trolleys out of the parking bays at Coles and Woolies. And for nudging the Great Walls and Nissan SUVs out of the line at the drive through bottle shops when you're in a hurry to get a box of coldies. Silly question, really.

And, for us country folk for moving these bastards off the road:

For commuting between Adelaide and Melbourne, a bullbar is not required.

Hmm you may not get many of the fury creatures but you get a lot of of the 2 legged type on 4 wheels that have the brain of a dinosaur.

They may be dead but I think dinosaurs would be offended by this comparison.

A bullbar will affect your front end suspension too and you may need a mild front lift to correct the 'nose down' appearance.
Or weigh the back down with a rear bar/wheel carrier

You'll need a bar there for pushing the back-packers in their "wicked" vans out of the car park so you can get in.
