  • Does size really matter? – awnings I’m talking about…

I’ve read a number of awning posts about brands and quality of such, but I’m interested to hear people’s comments, pro’s / cons as to size and their experiences.

Looking at the ARB awning, just debating on whether to get 2x2.5 or 2.5x2.5. It will be fitted to a Rhino platform.

Any views or opinions greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Go with the 2.5x2.5. That extra bit helps when you're at the beach and the sun moves. You get that bit of shade for a bit longer. But you're supposed to position the vehicle so that the shade grows as the sun sets.

If you're swagging it, then the extra area helps if there are a few of you.

Out of interest, what are the prices of each of them?

Its all about size, for some they what wider, others length. If you have both then you will keep everyone happy. If things are hot, people are grateful for the extra size and you will find people are willing to take advantage of that size, even people you don't know that hear about your size. The rumour mill runs rife once it gets out your "well hung" so to speak.

When it gets wet, you will find them eager to take advantage of size as well. There is usually only a little resistance based upon an initial shyness, but once they engage you will hear how grateful they are for the size.

Hope this helps. Might take a cold shower now.

Its not the size that matters, but how you use it...or so I'm told!

I went for 2m along the Vehicle and 2.5 out. This works for me at the moment. I haven't set the swag up under it yet though - so my tune may change in the future.
the 2.5 along the vehicle wouldn't have been well supported by my roof rack, hence only the 2m version.

I'm with you there Spilsy. I have same size like yours and it is installed on driver side. I always park my car North /South if space permit/ possible. I can get sunrise /sunset and not the hottest of the day.

I went with the 2.0 x 2.5 ARB awning off a 1928mm Rhino platform as I didn't want the extra overhang. That was just a personal thing, I will be swaging under it for a week or so from next week so will se how it goes!

2.0m may be too small to fit a tent underneath (if you do that). 2.5 it a great size but may get in the way of roof rack mounted lights and light bars.

lay out an old bed sheet on the floor next to the car to get an idea of size.

                2.5 X 2.5 was my choice.

need to move a bit less to keep out of the sun.

AMTS - I got a price of around $280 for the 2 x 2.5 and around $314 for the 2.5 x 2.5. Although that didn't include brackets - (hint if your keen to produce some others like your custom made ones). Looks like about 10% off the catalogue price. Not sure if that is any good or if I could do better. Maybe at the caravan / camping show coming up in SA next month???

                  I think I will go down the path of 2.5 x 2.5.

                  MLC - way too creative....
Kenny - would be interested to hear how you go.

Thanks to everyone else for the feedback and opinions.

(now I just need to learn how to add the quotes in my post)

                  Cheers
