Help! Keys locked in car....

I have just gone out to my car, unlocked it with the sensor key and loaded a few things into the front including my keys and shut the door.
As I walked away I heard the security beep and doors lock.

WTF?

So the key pod is in the car and it's locked.

I have no spare key with me....

Any suggestions outside of a locksmith?

Nope, it's like the key fob is not working but I just used it.
Grrr, locksmith is on his way- $300.....

We locked our keys in the 95 series once, RACV man came and got it open with a bit of that plastic strapping you see on boxes of copy paper.

2012 GXL.

Ok, so it turns out that if you unlock the passenger door, open it and then close it again without opening the drivers door it automatically relocks.
This will happen even if the key fob is inside the vehicle.

So as I did this morning, if you unlock the car, open the passenger door throw in a bag with your keys in it and close the door it will automatically relock.
I can't imagine why they would design that into the car..

Locksmith must have felt sorry for me as after quoting $300 he only charged me $200.

I can't imagine why they would design that into the car..

There's an issue with your passenger door switch. Test out the other doors.

With my 2010 GXL, if I de-activate the alarm then open any door, the doors will not re-lock. As amts stated, may be a dodgy door switch.

The 150 work vehicle I drive does this. It annoys the hell out of me and has to be one of the dumbest "features" I have ever seen. Surely there is a way to turn it off?

How did the locksmith get into it? This info will come in very handy one day.

Sounds like a dodgy ECU or keyfob. If I put one of my keyfobs in the car and try to use the other one from outside the car to lock the car, it beeps a long steady beep and refuses to lock until I take the keyfob out of the car. it has features builtin to prevent this situation.

He tried picking the lock but found it difficult, he suggested as the keys are never used on these vehicles the locks can be stiff and difficult to pick.
He then went in between the door seal using an air bag to wedge the gap open and attempted to open the door locks from the inside. He succeeded in doing this but another future with the Prado is that it only allows a split second to open the door before it relocks.
In the end he was able to get to my key fob in the centre console and press the unlock button.

All in all that took a lot of skill.

amts gets the prize for long distance diagnostics.
Spot on, the front passanger door switch was not operating and therefore the car never realised I had opened it.

A quick spray of CRC got it fixed.
