I've a Victa with a Briggs and Stratton motor (Corvette 500 series). Have a small lawn but its never missed a beat and it's solid as. Would buy another if I had to but I reckon this will see me out?? A lot of UK lawn mowers have the B & S motor, they were always reliable for my father who had one for years and years..

      is your lawn under water?

take the air filter off and clean it regularly,.
that is if your lawn is not under water

Haha, not under water, but, at the moment, very dusty. The research shows that a snorkel will help increase the life of the mower, preventing dust and particulates making it to the motor. For an extra $50ish, I think it will be a good investment.

New mower was acquired late last week. Gave it a go over the weekend. Leaps and bounds ahead of the old one.
For anyone thats interested, my old mower is up on ebay for parts, or use if someone wants to give the motor a bit of an overhaul.

I have a 2nd job on the weekend at a hire place and the new design Hondas are crap, the deadman device is simply a device to stop those with no intellect from removing their toes which then makes using the mower a pita. and the alloy base is sheet..We have quite a few and bases all crack round the centre of the base.

im sure they all get thrown round a bit but really a top mark mower with such a flaw shows cost cutting in action, it probably wont be an issue for the single home owner but id thought id share

Exactly why I chose the Victa with the Honda Motor. It's a solid unit, well built (from my eye anyway), plastic catcher and a full width opening to allow grass into the catcher.

Yep, Victa are a solid item with the cast alloy base. I still think the Aussie made 2 stroke engine has more torque than any of the 4 strokes. I am not sure how long they will be available or if they have already stopped manufacture of the motors.

If i ever buy a mower i just flick thru gumtree and buy one of the older victas. I paid $100 for an old 4 stroke starts 1st or 2nd pull and even got a free 4ltr can of W30 thrown in, the older units are beta built. All u need to make sure really is there is good compression left in them and the oil is not like tar.

I did the same for my drum roller a 30 yr old plus alroh super queen 20" 9 blade twin roller, dropped a 6.5hp i/c (yes overkill) on it and she weighs near on 40kgs. When she rolls, she rolls....new equivalent mower is half the weight, 6 times the price

Lawns are usually planted with grasses of the cereal family, and mowing prevents them from flowering and fruiting.

It amazes me how stupid spammers are that they comment on year old posts and out themselves immediately. Here's a dick for you to eat. Banned.

In most cases, it is pointless to repair an old lawnmower. It is much more profitable to buy a new one. Just recently I decided to buy a new lawnmower. There are a lot of them on the Internet, and I chose which one to buy. On this site https://trimthatweed.com/ego-string-trimmer-review/, I found a great article. This article helped me decide what to buy. After I used it for the first time, I was impressed with the results. I mowed the grass quickly and with excellent quality.
