$62990 before haggle for a gxl with metallic, $73000 for a vx with metallic. Those are my quotes to date

It would presumably mean a slightly lower profile on the tyres for 18”, and for serious off road you probably want as much rubber as you can get (but like you I’m not experienced in the matter, just seems logical to me). Dunlop ATs are fitted on the new models, 265 width but I didn’t check the profile between vx/Kakadu and the gxl.

It really depends on what you are buying the Prado for. Any driving on rough corrugations, dirt, rocks, sand and general 4WD use will benefit from high profile tyres.

Just looking at the 4WDs in the carpark at the 4WD show this weekend, many of which have never been off-road, it seems that a lot of Prados are bought for general driving and 18 inch tyres are fine for that. Along the same line I have seen a 200 series in my area running 22 inch mags and low profile tyres so I guess its horses for courses.

Where are you getting these prices from? My local dealer is quoting us $67990 drive away GXL, that’s a huge difference, please tell us which dealer??

Without doubt most of my use will be on tarmac but there will be plenty (hopefully) of times driving up and down beaches. At some point when I dont care about damage I'll take it to the interior of Fraser Island, but that'll be a couple years down the line.

Standard rims on the GXL are 17" - is there going to be a tremendous difference between those and the 18" on the VX & Kakadu?

I'll happily divulge once I've secured my motor at these prices!

Yup, they Surly are painfully expensive and come with a lack of options, even less if you want somthing with a rim protector
420 a corner for STMaxx in a 265/65r18 ( 31.8" ). One outting with 18s factory rubber cost me a rim, no chance buying a new one from Toyota there like 1400 each.

But I am persevering with 18s in the size above, hopfully that tyre rim protector does the job

                • Think i've extracted just about as much as the dealers are prepared to give.......Kakadu in Crystal Pearl/Black interior for $85,182 drive-away with the following Toyota accessories fitted.....Tow pack, Nudge bar, Aero roof bars, rubber Cargo mat, carpet front and middle row mats, Bonnet protector, tint 2 front windows and slimline number plates. Pretty happy with this considering RRP including accessories is $95,000+ and model was only released last week and is in short supply. Delivery early next week

The tyres on 17" rims bag out better for use on sand than 18".

I'd think for the coin it's a leather optioned GXL or KAK
KDSS is what I wanted, ready to purchase the '17 EOFY but there were hints from a couple of dealers re:3 T tow, so I opted to wait....now I don't know which way to go other than I would buy the Kak for a song or look at something completely different

I could, but because i would blank out any way of identifying the dealer it probably wouldn't be much help. I wouldn't recommend anybody naming dealers that are giving good prices. I have learnt that some dealers get very nasty when there cash cow is being threatened by dealers with sharp prices. It's just a matter of shopping around. For example, i got this price from a dealer just over an hours drive away......passing 2 other dealers along the way that wouldn't come near that price. Both these dealers demanded to see the deal in writing before they would even consider trying to match it......which I know would have given them the info they needed to ring the offending dealer and abuse the crap out of them.

I think blanking out the PII is absolutely fair enough and I also think that providing that blanked out contract to a dealer is still a very powerful bargaining tool. If they still don't accept that as proof then I would just go to the next dealer.

Thats fair enough. Local dealers do not like it if you buy at out of town dealerships. It looks bad on their cross-sell report.

That looks like one hell of a deal. I have a quote for Kakadu with metallic paint only at $83000, so you've managed to blag an awful lot for an extra ~$2k. I think the tow pack itself retails around $1800, the nudge bar goes for just under $1000, and bonnet protector about $200.

                                Well done, congrats!
