  • Paint protection for new car?

Hello, has anybody had any issues with their Prado paint peeling over the years? We are looking at a new prado and was offered paint protection? I’m not convinced but partner seems to think it’s a good idea
    Your opinions are greatly appreciated!

Hi.......tell your partner it's a scam! Watch this John Cadogan video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uw3eO1rI6Eo
.....i remember many, many years ago purchasing 'Ming paint protection' on a new car(showing my age lol). Waste of money, car still needed to be polished every year and any warranty was conditional on using there overpriced car wash. The only time your paint will 'peel' on any new car these days is if its had some dodgy panel repairs done. Polish your car once or twice a year, if that's not your thing pay for a professional detail annually.....you'll save heaps and have better protected paint.

It's always a scam... They would have asked you "how long do you intend to keep the car" and then if you answered short term - you would need it for resale. If you answered long term you would need it for longevity... They die after about a year (from personal experience and also when my mum got conned into it) and there are a LOT of exclusions. On mine, for example, if I got a slight scratch I had to get it inspected. Every 3 years I had to get it inspected. Every 5 years I had to have it re-coated at my expense (only around $200 though). Nah - it's a hassle.

The best I can see on the market (was about to do mine) is a ceramic coat from always dry dot com dot au. They last longer, have a far better finish and they actually polish your paint to near-perfection before you put it on. From memory for a Prado it was $1250 on sale. This sort of ceramic coating is, from what I can see, the best long-term job (there are others out there). Only reason I didn't get it was because my cars going to get scratches regardless of what goes on it (it has) and now I am looking at moving it on, so there's little reason for such a long-term investment.

At the end of the day - you can always pay for it separately, later.

And there's always a clause in the treatment that it needs a yearly check or maintenance (at a cost of course) for them to warrant there product. Also, if the paint fades, they blame the manufacturer that sprayed it, and the manufacturer blames them. Don't waist your money. My 120 is now 10 years old and has never had a treatment, just good old clean and wax and the paint still looks as good as the day it drove off the lot. Bar the bush pin stripping that is :-)

You won't have any issues with the Prado paint job. It's high quality. You don't need to do anything to it except wash it every 6 months. Mines still perfect after 19 years and Ive never done anything with it. Spends 5 days a week out in full sun for the day and has been exposed to plenty of salt air in its time. A Falcon on the other hand, their cheap crap paint work doesnt last. How many of them over 15 yrs old do you see with peeled flat surfaces? Bonnet, roof and boot. So many.

Try ceramic paint. I 've had mine coated with ceramic from https://ceramicprotection.com.au/ and it's totally worth it. Ceramic coating is a good sealant. If you have the extra funds for it, go to a shop, the paint will last longer than 5 years based on my experience.

We have had the Wifes' last two cars ceramic coated. It works well. Bat shit washes straight off with no etching into the paint. No need to polish the car. We live in Rockhampton where the temp regularly gets to 40 degrees. I have just purchased a 2017 GXL and will do the same to it.

I usually use mud applied with sticks, but this type of protection is not for everyone.

Speaking from past experience from when I had it applied to a brand new 120 series many years ago, don't bother. The product was Crystal Elements offered through the dealer. Only teflon protection was readily available back then. Ceramic was just coming in and was much more expensive. The teflon stuff was gone after 3 years and the clear coat started to become rough and very thin. I had it checked to see if the paint could be corrected. I was don't that there wasn't enough thickness left to get all of the imperfections out of it. You're better off applying a quality paint sealant yourself every 12 months. Duragloss or Menzerna Powerlock are relatively cheap if you're prepared to give up a few hours of your gime once a year. If you put two coats on initially, you should be able to get away with a coat every year after that.

Just please be aware that all these coatings, protect-ants and sealants are not long term solutions, the only long term solution is under cover in shade.

They need to be replied periodically, which includes ceramic coating

Its a coating applied to your clear coat, the only thing is permanent is the paint, as the clear coat eventually flakes n peels as so do these applications

Be mindful of this, no protectant is permanent. If yr told it is, its bewlshit
