  • Brewed coffee on a trip

    Gday everyone

I love my camping in remote areas and nothing beats a freshly brewed coffee to crank the body over in the morning, but it’s difficult to get a decent coffee when you’re hours from civilisation . Sorry the 43 bean blend just doesn’t cut it...

I’m keen to hear others opinions/ experiences / recommendations on taking a coffee machine (one that uses ground beans not pods preferably ) on the trip.

    Id be taking something compact.

How do they hold up under constant corrugations.

Do they burn big watts / amps. Could I run one off a 100 aHr aux battery via an inverter or do they need a generator

My coffee machine is a couple of kW. So you would need a 200A supply at 12V. It isnt compact either though I have taken it twice now when we have a powered site. The only successful bush version I have seen is one of those manual pump units. Espresso from that was amazing but they are very expensive.

We are heading off around Aust in a few weeks. I usually need 3 espressos a day to function. I will be taking a Avanti Classic Pro Espresso Coffee Maker 12 Cup is a two-part stovetop brewer. No power required just gas. It satisfys my needs. It uses ground coffee beans.

This looks pretty good. I remember googling the machine I saw and it was something like $5k!

I bought one the Wacaco Minpresso machine with the Cafitaly pod version and it actually works quite well. Almost as good as my home machine.

The italians /spanish/ portugees and french all use the italian home coffee pot . easy to use and always the best coffe. just buy a med grind coffee and italian coffe pot . follow the link above to learn the simple way to use it . once you get it right you will never want any other coffee.

here"s a video or two . we italians have always used this at home and camping !! we can forget things like a pan or a torch , but we never forget our coffee pot .......
