  • Toyota extended warranty

    Gday all

looking at biting the bullet shortly and putting some hard earned coin down on a new VX. Leaning towards getting the extra 150k / extra 3yrs warrAnty for $1295 just wondering is it worth it? I haven’t read the fine print yet but will soon. I figure giving the current dpf issues it might be cheap insurance, considering a new one costs $6k. Looking for your opinions and any recent experience claiming against it

You don't have to buy it now. You can wait until just before the expiry of the main warranty. If you buy it now and something happens that you have to sell the car before the 3 years is up you have done your dough.

I like that idea 404 pug... besides CPI increase is there any difference in the price now vs 3 yrs down the track... does Toyota have the right / capacity to refuse the purchase... or pull the “pre existing issue” card to weasel out of a claim?

It is definitely worth the money, and buy it later if you can although 1295 is a very good price

You may not get it for $1295 later. Also, if you buy it now, I'm pretty sure it's a factory warranty extension. If you buy it later its provided by a third party (Swann insurance or similar type of mob). 3rd party mods aren't as easy to deal with. I have first hand experience when my intercooler leaked due to being damaged when my turbo was replaced.

My extended Toyota warranty paid for itself several times over. Not due to major problems, just the cost of parts.

just took it out on my car 1 week before warranty expired. $1295 and definitely an extension of the Toyota warranty, issued through Toyota Australia insurance. Swann not involved.

A friend has just taken out this insurance as his guarantee is just about to expire, he is wondering if it is "worth the paper it is written on" but feels that it is worth a gamble with the DPF, timing chain and other issues hopefully making it a good investment especially bearing in mind the ludicrous prices charged by the stealerships.
My guarantee expires in December but I think I will give it a miss if it involves paying Toyota for servicing especially as the capped service meant that I was forced to have a service despite my Prado being laid up for 7 months each year. I had what I considered to be the ridiculous situation of having a service, driving about 10 Km home, leaving the Prado with battery disconnected and jacked up on axle stands only to find that 6 months later it had to have another service having covered only 20 Km including the return trip to the dealer.
The really annoying thing for me is what has happened to Toyota's reliability reputation? What about the fact that many other manufacturers offer 5 and even a 7 year guarantee ?
How much longer can Toyota keep trading on sayings like "if you want to go into the outback take a Land Rover but if you want to return take a Toyota"
It seems to me that people still think the Prado is a really good vehicle, how much of this is from trouble free motoring or customers being reluctant to admit they were wrong in choosing one?
