So the rules are destined to be changed in line with NCOP. Legislation to be completed during October. Essentially 50mm suspension and 50mm diameter increase in tyres for esc equipped vehicles and larger lifts for non esc.

From Courier Mail today
https://www.couriermail.com.au/news/...15d7ba4fc7ea63
PREMIER Annastacia Palaszczuk has comprehensively slapped down Transport Minister Mark Bailey on the controversial 4WD towing laws that he was trying to stealthily push through.
Realising the political implications of getting grey nomads offside, the Premier intervened to ensure a backdown by the hapless minister.
Caught out, Bailey then tried to shift the blame to Canberra and said it was a federal issue.
Retirees bear brunt of 4WD car towing tax
Federal Liberal MP Andrew Laming is now pushing to have every person unfairly captured in the minister’s “solo flight’’ to be refunded their fines. “They shouldn’t be subjected to court ... we don’t want this becoming a lawyer’s picnic,’’ Laming said.
Queenslanders have invested heavily in their caravans, trailers and off-road vehicles and the attack on them by Bailey was in poor form.
He wouldn’t even meet or communicate with the industry before trying to ram through the new laws. Full marks to the Premier for calling this out.

The cynic in me doubts there's a back room team working to re-imburse those fined under this ridiculous "hooning" legislation.
More likely the onus will be on the individual to prove his case.
What a useless minister. Got the school bus drivers off side too, again with zero consultation.
Premier can see the writing on the wall.

While I agree with some comments regards the legislation I have to disagree that it was ridiculous to penalise some of the vehicle owners. I work just north of the Gold Coast and used to often see the style of vehicle that made the news broadcasts. These vehicles are not a little illegal but a lot, there are many with 4" lifts, 35" tyres or so which protrude past the guards etc. Often when driving at night due to the increased height of the headlights & "fog lights" behind me, I have to adjust external mirrors to remove the glare and I'm sure oncoming traffic is being dazzled as well. Think about the impact point of these raised vehicles, yes a truck is higher but look at the front end, it is relatively low and I would say certainly lower that the vehicles being discussed.
Yes changing to a 70 profile from a 65 should be okay with a 50mm suspension lift, what has draw the police attention is no doubt the few who have gone over the top so to speak.
Not looking to start a flame war, just my thoughts.

It's worth noting that these modern vehicles rocking 4 inch lifts and 35inch tyres still have much better brakes and are far safer in an accident than my 40 series landcruiser- and most other cars made in the 80's (let alone prior to that) of which there are still a lot of getting around. I don't think that 35's and a 4 inch lift is all that outlandish? Maybe 40 inch treps is getting carried away but I believe there should be a seperate license catagory to allow these types of highly modified vehicles to be registered and drivin on the road (maybe similar to a club rego) not driven every day, but if you want to take the truck out and do a burn up the glasshouse mountains or some such it should be permissable.
