Hi All,
My Auto D4D stalled a couple of times over the weekend, the second time after losing power and acting as if it was a manual with a slipping clutch. In both cases I had been driving for over an hour, and in both cases I switched the vehicle off, restarted and normal service was resumed. Took it to Mr Tojo yesterday and asked for the problems to be diagnosed / rectified whilst they did the 50K service.
The Service Rep informed me that his computer says I have the sweetest running machine with no faults logged. Recommended course of action - "...owner to continue to monitor performance..."
It was then put to me that the most likley culprit was dirty diesel. My problems showed up around ~600km after my last fill. I informed them of this, but they didn't see this as relevant in the grounds that fuel gets pumped between tanks :? Apparently they have had multiple cases in recent months - one of which saw a $12K repair bill on a 200 Series after some crud went all the way through to the injectors. The suggestion was that I too could have some bad news in the bottom of one of my tanks, with the only way to be certain being to drop them, inspect and flush in need. 2 days work involved! Fortunately I will be given a loan car for the duration.
This is where things start to get interesting. If they find nothing then I will not be charged for the exercise as they are "performing exploratory surgery" under warranty in an effort to find the source of a problem that their computers say doesn't exist. If, on the other hand, they do find dirty diesel then the warranty goes out the window and I'm up for labour of $600-700 plus whatever parts need replacing. At their suggestion I have checked with my insurer and received confirmation that I am covered (except for the applicable $550 excess) if Mr Tojo provides them with a written report blaming damage on contaminated fuel.
Has anybody been in a similar situation before?
