  • 2018 GDR150R LED Light Bar High Beam pick up point.

I know this question has been asked before and there seemed to be no solution offered other then a genuine wiring loom or take your car to an auto electrician but that bought it’s own problems.
I installed the light bar before looking at the rear of the headlight housing thinking there would be your normal led connections but as you know there aren’t any. I popped open one of the grommets and still couldn’t see any connections at all.
What I’m wondering is if there has been any progress on finding the high beam pick up wire or is it still the genuine loom option. I have an adaptor to plug into a standard led but as I said there are no plugs to tap into. Also I have a wiring harness but the only CANBUS connector is for the light bar it’s self. Toyota have really done a number on us with this setup. They probably had their reasons.
Thanks in advance for any help

the connection are under the head light,
i tap into that for the bullbar drl's and indicator,
from what ive been looking up apparently if you tap into the hight beam wire engine check light comes on

I heard of someone today frying the main fuse box under the dash.
i decided to buy the wiring loom and it’s a massive job to do. Parts of the dashboard and inside trim etc.
      Thanks for your reply.

Its a delightful job. You'll become an expert at pulling most of the dash panels out and re-assembling them.
Just follow Toyota's instructions and your warranty will be the better for it.

I didn't use their switch tho, Instead I used a thirdparty driving light switch that fits in a blank on the lower RHS of the steering wheel. Looks much better.

When I was done I got a few codes, but after driving the vehicle around the block they all went away.

Thank you RPP. I’m getting experts to fit the loom. Toyota directed me to them. I’ve read the instructions I could do it but it would be my luck I’d lose my temper and crack it so someone with experience can do it.. when I went to the mob to put it in I was the third person that day to get a quote. You’d think Toyota would have incorporated the loom in the factory. It’s just money making.
          Thanks again.

The spare parts departments of various Toyota Dealers also sell driving lights, amongst other non-Toyota accessories, and will arrange fitment.
They are a stakeholder in the aftermarket as well as the genuine OEM parts market.
Toyota is doing a fantastic job facilitating the Australian 4WD aftermarket.

At least Toyota has a built-in room for an Auxiliary Battery.

Yes I noticed that the spare area for a battery. I don't mind paying it's just I wish I was told about it when I bought the car so I could have hadn't fitting prior to picking it up. Anyway that's life. Thanks again.

What on earth? I’m an auto electrician and have had no issues grabbing the high beam wire from 150 headlights. I wonder what happened to other owners that they triggered a CEL?

Whilst the 150 with normal H4 globes is very easy to grad a high been.wire from the newer LED lights are another problem. The LED globes are inside the light housing and even though there are wires leading out of the headlight assembly it is hard to find what wire goes where. Also others have reported that hooking up to the wire they find brings up errors on the dashboard. The system that Toyota use now is CANBUS. I don't know if this is the issue or not.

While I understand all that... I’ve lost track how many light bars and lights I’ve fitted to the 150 with both H4/H7 and LEDs. While I also knew that the vehicle was CANBUS, I don’t think much of that was tied in to the actual power supply side of the high beams... BUT... I’m not sure. Also, if it is and those wires are probed with a test light that uses an incandescent bulb instead of an LED test light, than THAT can cause issues. Not by probing the high beam, but by probing one of the other wires that go into the headlight housing that isn’t supplying power.

While I do use a test light sometimes... it’s always an LED. I wonder if that’s what has caused them problems?

As a secondary thought, if the LED highbeam wire is tied back into the BCM without a relay, then by adding a basic 4 pin relay, you could potentially cause an issue when the relay switches off and the coil breaks down voltage shoots back to the BCM. Again, this is a problem I personally wouldn’t come a cross as every relay I use is either diode or resistor protected to prevent this from happening.

So, after all that, I can see how it could potentially happen and those would be the two primary reasons why... and also how to overcome them.
