Hi Everyone,
This is a topic I am surprised has not yet been posted.
I'm picking up my new 2019 GXL this week and already have plans for the upgrades. The question that keeps coming up is accessory switching.
ARB has their new Linx product out https://www.arb.com.au/linx/ which seems to have some good (but minimal) reviews as yet.
Here is my list of pro's and cons.
Pros:
- Neater setup
- Ability to switch on and off accessories without being in the car (ie take the controller in the swag and town on and off camp lights)
- Overall may work out more cost effective when you add up cost of the items it replaces.
- Overcomes the known problems people are having with high-beam switching in the new prado

Cons:
- Damage to screen from drops/heat/people
- Standby power use?? Not listed anywhere
- Obvious tech upgrades outdating device
- Relying on tech

Has anyone got one and willing to share thoughts?

Technically speaking its illegal to use while on the road as it’s classes as a mobile display. Can get a fine if caught using it, same fine as a mobile phone

Just installed in 2019 Kakadu. Apparently a software patch is currently being urgently written to get it to operate front intensity spotlights for this and another 2019 VX due to some compatibility issues with the toyota wiring loom. Would check status for other models.

Also using for air compressor, battery monitoring and waiting for the tyre pressure module. Would like to have a compatible fridge for that new module as well.

Apparently the screen has a special battery to deal with heat but I don’t think you would want to leave it to cook in the sun all day.

So far it seems to do what it should but will wait till It does some hard yards across Cape York in the school hols before passing judgement.

Front driving lights now working with Linx system - challenge with fitting wiring loom rather than software issue apparently. However, running the driving lights through linx does not play well with the auto headlights system or the auto high beam system. At this stage, the only time I can be sure that the driving lights and car high beam are working in sync is when the headlights are turned on using manual control and auto high beam is off. Other combinations get some unexpected outcomes that may or may not be useful once you work out what is going to happen. Linx also can turn on the driving lights seperate to having the car lights on and even automatically with the ignition.

Thanks for that. I did read that the prado needs a whole different wiring setup. Maybe the install techs just didn't follow that.
Interesting about the auto high beam and auto headlights. I have a GXL so no auto headlights for me but the auto high beam is installed. Personally i have found the auto high beam a bit useless so not having it on isn't an issue.
