  • Altitude SatNav

All hope you are enjoying your new Altitude experience.

Just wanted to put it out there in relation to the SatNav, we noticed there was not a manual for the system and when looking something up in the owners manual we found the operations to SatNav and system functions supported by the SatNav are referred to another manual.

We went back to the dealer who advised there should be a manual for the system and showed me the one from a Camry. We then looked into another Altitude in the lot to discover that it too do not have a manual for the SatNav?

Dealer is following up on this for us and we will keep you posted but it would seem the Altitudes are not being delivered with the additional manual. It does not take a NASA scientist to work most things out but there are some things that we would have liked to do which are covered in the manual so better to have one then not I say.

I too asked my dealer about the manual. I cannot figure out how to work the reverse camera's assist feature. On my nissan it has predictive overlay. But on the toyota there are 2 lines on the side and a box, which then disappear when i turn the steering wheel too much. Naenae any idea on how it works?

Bizarre not having a manual. Like you say you don't have to be a rocket scientist for basic stuff, but these units can be very advanced if used properly. For that some parts of the manual would be required reading. There is a bit of fluff in it, but there are 352 pages for a reason.

Assuming the system is more or less the same as the Kakadu (not sure if it has the Back Guide Monitor function), but it should show you distance behind you in the form of red, yellow, green bars and a directional turning indication based on the direction your front wheels are pointed. There should also be a couple of buttons on the bottom left and right of the screen to change a couple of settings.

It could be it is based on the GXL system but just displayed on the monitor but as I have no experience with that setup I'll defer to someone else.

From what we have worked out, it would appear the green lines are your width of your car so it gives you an idea of what you will fit into and the green square is like your trajectory through the space represented by the green lines as the box will change as you start to turn. Once you turn past a certain point you hear a tone and the curve appears to show your turning circle limit backwards. We also found playing with the way the cars are represented (parallel or nose to nose) changes the guide lines that appear on the screen.

This may not be one percent accurate but is what we have observed.

              Hi guys,

I was issued with a manual for the sole instruction of the SatNav system
This should also be supplied with your Altitude.
I'd be chasing up the dealer for it!

              Cheers

              Jeff

New to the group after just trading my Discovery 3 on a new D4D Prado Altitude. Ordered in September last year, delivered 2 days ago. Very happy with what I have seen so far although the engine feels a little more 'chuggy' than the Landrover TDV6. I also did not receive a manual with the Sat Nav and the dealer is looking into this for me. Being new as I am, please excuse my ignorance if this has already been discussed somewhere, but are you able to upgrade the Toyota system with something like Hema Maps, VMS or similar? I am based in Alice Springs and while there are plenty of well known tracks around the red centre, I would love to be able to check out a few more of the lesser known ones.

Glamper the maping is delivered from Whereis maps and installed via DVD. I am not aware of any compatability with third party systems. It is an interesting question as the current version is at 18 (2012 release) when you visit their site for Toyota Satnav updates, its around $295 for the version update. We have found the maps do not show some areas our Garmin do already.

I am also guessing that a Toyota service centre would be the only (yes I am sure there is ways around it but I like keeping things within warranty) to have the updates installed? Or just maybe follow prompt steps on insertion of the disk.

Thanks naenae. Still carry the iPad around with me which is loaded with VMS. Seems a shame to have to use possibly two separate pieces of cutting edge technology to do a particular job, but at least I have a backup.

When you pay $60k plus for a car, why can't they just give you these things for free?

                        Naenae

The nav system is just a DVD in your stacker? As far as I can work out....

Guys of you that have your altitude already, did any of you get the DVD for the satellite navigation system?

I've been told some bulls that it's t he dealers and they load it. For you and that's it.... Funny thing is there's a license agreement in the glove box that says handle disc with care etc etc ...

                              Thanks
